Being a fan of Warhammer I have for a long time wished for a good pc version of the game. Unfortunately past attempt have been very poor. But using the MTW engine you could really do a good job - imagine choosing your favorite elven, dwarven, Empire etc troops and engaging in a MTW style fight to the death http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I realise CA are busy with other project but the structure is already in place and could be a profitable and fun side project; I'd buy it
What do the rest of you think?

well here is the thing. It IS possible without doubt to make a good warhammer conversion out of the current version of MTW. It can be modded so, but it means changing the various 'bif' graphical files and the world map. this is IMHO very hard, an individual unit has a lot of different animation frmaes. I do remember when MTW came out people resolvingto make a fantasy mod, but the fact is nothing reallly ever came of it.
The big thing in my mind past this is that there is no good way to simulate magic in the battle system. I must say that after rome total war I would love to see fantasy TW given that I belive the TW concept will be poor at representing anything past 1500 ad with real gunpoweer weapons.
The mod forum unfortunatly gives no real impression of where the fantasy mod got to, I personally would be interested in knowing quite where it got to and why so many motivated people decided not to continue with it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
I myself would put myself forward as having all but the graphic ability on this, editing unit stats and requirements is very easy indeed, but doing anything even remotly artistic is a joke to me and even possibl;y most of the good mods in the forum.
I would say, any not be upset by saying so that CA would do themselves a big favour by helping the community in the creation of a fantasy mod, especially if they have no intention of creating such a thing themselves.
Regrdless of giljays interaction for qa long time and some contact with eatcoldsteel and cpn' fishpants of late I am very dissapointed with the support I have seen from CA recently, especially given their planned release of two new games or expansions. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

im more a fan of 40k to be honest but killing orks is probably just as enjoyable with a lasgun or with a longsword so id be keen to see if it would work.
PS. the game starcraft was meant to be 40k but GW where and probably still are a bunch of wa***** so it was never to be.
zerg where the tyranids protos where eldar and the marines obviously the space marines.

Yes I believe there would be a lot of support for the idea and I think your point about magic is a fine one; not that magic really interested me in Warhammer battle (better in the roleplay methinks).
I used to enjoy making elven armies and to see them in action not to mention Griffens, dragons etc. I guess these creatures would take some work but...
I don't know why past attempt have been sooooooo disappointing. Perhaps they don't want to lose the tabletop monopoly. Personnally I don't collect the minitures anymore.
And then there are licencing issues BUT nothing is ever created by dwelling on the obstacles.

I haven't but even just the space reqd to store, I had 120 of the little blighters and it just became unmanageable, especially when you have to move house periodically.

Ohhh, what would I do to get my hands on a good WH game... I used to be the GameMaster of the Pen&Paper version, but always wanted to try the figures (too expensive though).
I think that doing a conversion would be very hard, since you do no treally have bigger units in MTW that could work as dragons, goliats, giants, hell beasts, deamons etc...
Same with WH40K: tanks, planes, bikes, carriers.... We can only dream now that someone will make that game. I tell you what, let's send some letters to CA or/and GamesWorkshop to give them the idea, yes?

Kudos to you. Except online you don't have geek midgets tripping up unsuspecting shoppers who could squash them within one inch of their meaningless lives ouch http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/argue.gif

I have always enjoyed the Warhammer universe and also have longed for a good computer game based on its units and history. However I don’t believe this will ever happened.
Warhammer makes all of its money from selling new model after new model, updated codex after codex, magazines to explain the rules, new rulebooks to explain the rules etc…
So why would they create a game with the majority of units in it, the rules hardwired in so there was no need memorize them, update them, buy books about them, argue about them. Why would they make so every time you wanted to try a new army you didn’t have to shell out 300 dollars? They’d just be shooting themselves in the foot.

Warhammer??? Oooooh That makes me want to drool I am more of a WH40K fan myself, but I think that you are right in that the game is far more given over to WH. Apart from the horrendous graphis issue, there is also the magic items and magic that would either have to be ignored, or worked in. Doing a professional addon (no offence guys - it'd just take so long else that full time is the only way forward!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif would be great - skaven burrowing units, undead magic and the rest - who needs real life????

I'd love a warhammer type edition but i cant see how it can be done modding wise. There would have to be someone, or more likely a team who would have to recode large parts of the game.
What I see being available is a multiplayer type game based on warhammer. I believe that would be quite easy to do. Instead of factions substitute races and create units for them (still not that easy for the unexperienced!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
And even in this case...no moving warmachines, no monsters, no real heroes, no magic. Heck can you imagine the poor dwarves? in all the armour you'd give them they would get exhausted easily and as far as i know there isnt anyway to reduce the fatigue rate of any troops in particular. So as you may appreciate....such an idea would not be easy to accomplish.
However if there are people here willing to give it a crack I'd like to help, but I'd me mostly limited to unit design/testing etc though ill try and get my mod skills up sometime soon
Cheers Everyone
