Just a quick poll,

The new downloads area that The Org now utilises (3ddownloads) is, IMHO, the worst thing has happened to The Org for

the last 6 months.

Whilst poor response times and bad availability from ikonboard are extremely frustratin, I personally have found that

it's impossible to download anything from this 3ddownloads area that The Org have now adopted.

If you hav;nt tried downloading anything yet, thenplease attempt a small download and let us know, via this poll,

whether it's successful or not.

I just downloaded the Lords69units from the 3d download site I read on another thread to turn off any pop up filter before downloading and it seems to work before that it was a hassle

How did you turn off these pop up filters?

The swap to 3D downloads was done as a requirement of the hosts rather than out of choice.

Hi Cataline,

Yes we know this. Please don't see these Polls as criticism - they are not.

We (or you/or Barocca) can only resolve any potential download problems providing your aware of EXACTLY what the problems are, how many people are experiencing them and what potential work-a-rounds people use. This info can only help in assisting -

- me to be able to download again
- 'The Org' to be able to advise people accordingly

Indeed Wellington. The 3D downloads are annoying compared to the direct downloads we had before. It's ugly if it doesn't work at all.

It's, ihmo, not so much a question how many people suffer (one is already too much) or whether there's a problem, but why.

I really hope that people will specify their problems here.

What kind of OS are you using The Sword Of Storms, XP?

Good idea TosaInu.

May I request, in the interests of all, that ANYONE reading this thread please attempt a small download from 'The Orgs' new download area.

I know many new people will not have tried a download before. If so please try a small download (any file of only a small size) and then add a few words to this thread relating to how the download went -

- did it work, and if so what browser filters are you using (if any)
- did you find a circumvention to any experienced problems
- whether it worked or not, what opsys are you running (W98/2000/se/XP) and what browser version do you have installed

Basically any info is GOOD info. No info will not assist 'The Orgs' technical people in sorting this out.

Finally, if your a new patron and don't wish to 'speak your mind' on the grounds that you may be 'restricted' from further postings - don't worry. Gregoshi is a nice guy really - and he would'nt hold any helpful comments against you

Well unfortunatelly for me im one of those who can't get any file... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif it seems i found this site to late... i would really like some of those goodies you have there...the mods... the articles and faqs... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif but i can't get any... not a single one.
Im running win2000 professional fully updated and IE 6.0 also fully updated...
That new host for your files seems to be totally bogus... i only get a blank IE window when i click on one of those links. I tried to turn of my firewall to see if it works (yes im that desperate) even set the IE security level to the lowest... nothing...dammnit.
Can you guys do something about it? I really fancy some of those goodies and apparently im not the only one... by the way, great site you guys have (have had a look around and thought i should say this in my first post).
Back on topic... i looked around in your file host site and was unable to download from their site also, so the problem is not yours... its theirs. Their own links don't work. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif .
I think you guys did not had much luck on your choice... anyway their advertising suks and do not provide proper service... my advice: CAN THEM...
I know... you had all that trouble moving files around and stuff... but what good would that do if your work can't be appreciated? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Welcome to the Org Portuguese Rebel. On behalf of everyone that made this site what it is, thanks for the kind words.

Do you have any pop-up stoppers running? That seems to interfer with the download process.

PRr,

If's there is anything specific you want from the downloads area, AND it's not too big then say what it is.

I'm sure someone who has successfully download it will be able to E-mail you a copy.

TSoS,

Thanks for that.

I'm not familier with AOL but I presume AOL 8.0 is a briowser with additional functionality for pop-ups? Pity, 'cos I can't find anything in IE 6 that performs a similar function.

BTW, In English Tosa is pronounced tosser, which in the UK is not very nice

However, as TosaInu is Dutch I'm sure he won't mind http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hi again it's me bitchin again because of the downloads:(
I dont have any pop up killer and i have tried to lower the security and privacy settings in IE 6.0... and nothing... like i said i've been to their site and all the other pop ups (the ones filled with useless junk http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif) work perfectly. You guys think this may be because they are trying to send some spyware cookie that IE 6.0 simply doesn't allow?
Well since i cannot download i must rely on the good will of you nice guys reading this post (this is me buttering up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif ), and ask anyone who has some or all (that would be really great...) of the files on this wish list, to please send them to me (nuno_pedro@yahoo.com):

- Techtree By Actarus
- A guide to editing medieval total war v.1 by fenir
- Unit stats for access by AB
- Building and unit data PDF by ButcherPB

This are the top of my wish list right now. If someone sends them over i'll be forever gratefull and may allow you to rough my newbie but in MP someday http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Errr... Moderator dudes.. do something bout those downloads will ya? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The A guide to editing medieval total war v.1 by fenir was NOT by fenir. It was by me.

Also it's very badly titled as it's really all about 'Unit Animations'

It's merely a compilation of the various PART's I wrote in the stickied thread in the Dungeon Animations ... - so you can read it all in that thread.

As for the others, I can't help you as I don't have them - and I can't download anything either http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

I downloaded the official patch recently from 3D downloads. It was a bit annoying having to queue for a download (never had to do that before &#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. The estimated waiting time was initially three minutes. But I had to leave the computer for quite a bit longer than that, so I can't say if it was accurate. When I came back the red pop-up window had been replaced with an error message - I think it was http 404 timeout (could've been this page cannot be displayed, not sure). I left the pop-up window open and tried to dowload again, expecting to queue. But it worked straight away with the usual option to save to disk or open. After that everything was fine, with a decent (3-5kbs) transfer rate.
I'm running XP, Internet Explorer 6.

Well, that is 3ddownloads for you. One of the basic principals of the internet and the TCP/IP protocol was to AVOID queueing. The 3ddownloads site deliberately introduces queueing in order to ensure people watch adverts.

Yes. 3ddownload make you wait for an indeterminate period of time until you are presented with the opportinuty to start your download. This 'opportunity' is in the form of a timedependent download window that if you don't responfd quickly enough too - gives an error (or, as in my case, just does'nt work at all&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Well, personally speaking, I'm totally fed up with direction The Org has taken in this. Considering the number of members/patrons and the number of increased hits on The Org over the last 12 months or so I would have expected The Orgs service to have improved.

Unfortunately this new 3ddownload area has really been a retrograde step. Most people are frustrated by it, some of us just can't upload/download at all any more.

I really fail to understand the logic that dictates The Org must use a commercial site as piss-poor as 3ddownloads. Whilst commerecial considerations are always paramount I know of several other games sites that have far less hits than The Org but have not yet deemed it necessary to compromise the purpose/functionality/credibility of the site by utilising such poor 'services' as 3ddownloads

There are far better solutions than this rubbish http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

It's about time somebody put their thinkng cap on.

Just keep in mind that The Org did not hold a meeting and decide to find the suckiest place to host its files. We need to determine what is causing the problem and if it is fixable. If it isn't correctable, then we need to find another host (that is even suckier http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ).

BTW, I just downloaded Gnome's utility without problem. IE6, Win98, Popup Stopper disabled, Firewall active. I will agree that the queue business is annoying, although I did learn that The Children of Dune is coming to the SciFi Channel on March 14. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Granted, but the main problem is not just that it sucks - which it does - rather that there are too many people who just CANNOT download. Period

And I'm one of them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Well, Collins Concise English Dictionary defines 'sucks' as -

An expression of disappointment

Hhhhm.

Considering the total failure, in my case and others, of 3ddownloads to perform as per it's namesake ... disappointment is'nt exactly the first noun that springs to mind http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

IMO the only part I don't like is the queue. I have had to wait up to 10 minutes for a download but that was at 7pm ET (peak period?)

I have downloaded probably twenty files since the 3d downloads area was launched. I have a cable connection and 98 SE.

I hate to hear so many are having such problems because they are an important aspect of gaming and the Org's selection is considerable and diverse.

I am appreciative of the fact that the staff are volunteers and that webspace is expensive.
