Dear forum staff, dear fellow members,

as I'm new to this forum - means as an active participant - I've been a very interested reader for a long time, I would like to greet you all.

Due to the junior/ senior member stuff - which I don't really understand, as I must admit - I'm forced to post here instead of the thread this post is meant for. So I rely on one of the staff members to put this post into the Napoleonic Mod thread in the dungeon forum (please as a reply and not as a new post). Thanks in advance.

To the Lords and Wellington

I was fascinated by the Napoleonic era ever since and I've done lots of research and reading about this time, especially in regards of the military aspect of the subject.

Unfortunately there is no game dealing with warefare in these times and so I was very excited, when I first found this thread. Especially when I realised that some of the most gifted modders posting in this forum would take part.

So it was kind of a pain to see Wellington leave the team and starting to work for his own Nap Mod.

What has happened? Wouldn't it be better, to merge abilities and efforts together. In my - the forum newbie's opinion - a mod like this needs both: The analytical brain of Welly with his very systematic approach to all problems and the gifted abilities of the Lords in actually modding units and graphics. What a waist of energy and effort to do two mods about the same subject.

Don't you think that there might be a way to get over it and start cooperating again?

Just my thoughts (and it was so important for me to say that - it actually was the reason I decided to actively take part in this forum). Not meant to offend anyone.

Anyway - I would prefer to see you back in one team again but in case you won't like to do that, I offer my - limited - services to anyone of the both teams. As my free time is few I probably will not be able to take part in establishing the conceptional structure of this mod but I can fulfill clearly stated and non-epic tasks.

My knowledge about this time is quite well and over the time I've collected a number of some 400 books about Uniforms and warfare in the time of Napoleon. So I probably could provide you with data about and images of leaders and uniforms of that time. My photoshop skills are good enough to mod graphics of other games - so they probably will be good enough for mtw as well - and I have a scanner.

As I would really like to play a mod like that I'm very willing also to do some work for it. Just tell me what you need and I tell you if I can do it and - if yes - when it will be ready.

Again I would like to repeat, that it was double fun for me to work for a reunited team but finally it's - of course - your decision.

Best wishes to all of you
Hal

@Gregoshi

Thanks for moving the post. Please could you be so kind to answer me one question. I already read through the threads, that seemed to deal with that subject but couldn't really find an answer.

What would I have to do to actively take part in the dungeon forum? Honestly I'm just interested in that forum and do have neither the time nor the intention to do small talk in other forums. I'm planning to take part in creating a Napoleonic mod - as stated in my first post (if they want me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) and its a big drawback not being able to answer to posts in this thread. I appreciate the offered moderators service to move the posts - but honestly, it's still a pain in something I won't name now.

I understand that your rule is a good way to keep trolls or/ and offending posters out of the forum but I'm 40 years old (not exactly a troll http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif ) and I want to communicate (not to offend).

If there will be no other way than doing small talk in this forum for a certain amount of time I probably will be out very soon (not meant as an offence against the ones who enjoy small talk - I just don't have the time and prefer to communicate just about the things I'm REALLY interested in - and that's the Nap-Mod and other Modding questions).

Anyone who reads this post should please not mind my open speech (writing) - also I REALLY don't want to sound arrogant. I just want to find out, if I can achieve my goals in here and if your rules won't allow for that I am willing to leave without a bad word.

Best wishes
Hal

PS: I'm sure I've made more than just one grammer and other mistakes - forgive me as english is not my native language.

Hi Hal,

Please allow me to assure you that many individuals working on different MTW projects often peruse these forums (Greg and Kukri's forums especially) in order to provide encouragement/friendliness to new people.

Please feel assured that anything you say or comment upon will be noticed by individuals who are always looking to introduce/aid/assist new people who have interests that gel with their own

But, the beauty of The Org is that there are Moderators who attempt to assure that The Org does NOT allow new individuals to post wantonly - until it has been determined such new individuals are indeed responsible people.

If you wish to add a post/comment to other threads in other forums both Greg and Kukri will assist you in this respect.

hal, let's get one thing perfectly clear - there is absolutely nothing wrong with your English. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Regarding that other subject you touched upon, your term here in the Entrance Hall is what you make of it. If you see it solely as small talk, then perhaps you are wasting you opportunity. As an example, here is a post written by Cuirassier66 less than two weeks ago regarding the same Nap mod you are interested in: Using the MTW engine for a Napoleonic mod (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=3634). C66 made the best of the situation. We are looking for personality and maturity level. Some, like C66, show us what we need to see in one post, while others need quite a few more and several days. There is no magic formula we use for promoting patrons to the other forums.

Your second post gives us a good read on you. It was very well stated. It questioned policy without flaming. And though you belittled every patron who visits this forum with that small talk remark http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif , you were apologetic and explained what you meant by it.

You can read the Dungeon forum as you have been doing, and if you want, you can continue to participate in the Nap mod discussion from here until you get promoted. We try to put together a list daily, but sometimes life gets in the way. Have some patience my friend and you will dancing around in the Dungeon in no time. I warn you though, from what I've seen, it is modder in there. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif I know, that was a bad pun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I must admit - I'm getting more and more confused about what is happening in this board.

My very first post was transferred to the appropriate forum - I appreciate that. When I looked at it I got the impression that it was placed there not by one of the moderators but by Demon of Light, who does not seem to be a moderator of any of the forums on this board. Probably not necessary to understand.

Today I realised a new topic that showed exactly the same title as my post did - funny coincidence I thought - and read it - just to find that it WAS my post. This time posted by another guy - the sword of storms - who also does not seem to be a moderator of any forum on this board. Again not necessary to understand?

In both cases my post didn't appear as a quote (bold italic) but at least had a short line stating that it was posted by a new member - hal269091 better than nothing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif .

I really do not want to offend both of the mentioned junior members and appreciate their interest in what I had to say.

Nevertheless I would prefer to have my postings appear under my name or appear in the state of quotes.

Right - what I wrote in my first post was not exactly the kind of content someone should go after some copyright-Items but in my opinion this is not the point. It was MY post and therefor it should be under MY control, as far as it's not quotes. And if I - due to your board rules - do not have the opinion to control it by myself I would really appreciate to be asked - again as long as it's not a quote.

The intention of your rules is to prevent the boards being floated by inappropriate posts, flaming, use- and/or senseless posts. It works - as far as I read until now and I appreciate and respect that - although it's a hard thing for my patience http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif .

But my intention is to prevent my posts floating across the board and myself from finding new threads like - lets look what he wrote....ahhh its me again. Besides the items mentiond above its pretty boring cause I mostly can remember what I have written - at least for a few days (getting less due to Halfheimer - wait another week and I probably will enjoy my own posts as new ones).

So could one of the moderators be so kind to explain how all this happened.

PS. @ Gregoshi

I re-read my second post and realised, that I really belittled (a new word I learned) every member in this forum with my small talk remark. This was not my intention and it was not as I originally meant it. What I wanted to express is, that I MYSELF would be forced to do small talk in here because the only thread I really have the intention to contribute at the moment is the Nap Mod thread (unless I opened another Nap Mod related thread in here - which I definately do not want to do Things have to stay where they belong - thats my opinion).

I DID NOT want to epress, that all the threads in here are small talk threads (ok some are http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ). So lift all members in here up where they belong and let them no longer be belittled (I like that word) by me

As I define it what I write here is small talk, because it does not deal with what I'm really interested in - helping creating this Napoleonic Mod In my opinion it just consumes time I could use better - for example by creating new portraits of Napoleonic Leaders - and this is a pain cause I'm now doing what I wanted to avoid.

My conclusion is that I will no longer be posting little Tolstois in here but start working - and if I ever will be promoted senior patron or junior member or senior member (or galactic emperor) - fine - it would make me happy and if not I'm planning to be happy as well

Best wishes
Hal

hal, you didn't need to explain your small talk comment again. You explained yourself fine the first time. No offense was taken because I understood what you meant by it. Don't worry about it mate. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

As for your first post being copied twice to the Dungeon, that was simply a matter of two patrons trying to be helpful. Thanks to Demon of Light your post was copied to the Dungeon forum sooner that had Kukri or I done it. I wasn't aware that The Sword of Storms had also copied it over. Both were simply trying to help you get your message to the appropriate people. As long are you are given credit for the words, I see no issue. We moderators copy your post in the same way. I usually preface the copied post with something like

hal269091 posts the following in the Entrance Hall:

Unfortunately, we cannot copy your post to another forum and keep it under your name. They did give you credit for the post, so I don't see an issue with them not using the quote function. I don't use it either when I copy a post.

I hope that clears things up a little.

I looked at the thread and I believe I know part of what prompted Hal to insist on proper citation for his work. Turns out that both people who directly responded to Hal's post directed their comments to me (despite the note I attached to the top). In a situation like that, a complaint is certainly justified. ( I corrected the situation and made sure everyone knows who wrote what)

Hal: Please feel free to post whatever you wish here so that it may be tranferred. I guarantee you that the next time I transfer any post you write, I'll bold, italasize, underline, and CAPITALIZE the part where I say that Hal269091 wrote this. If I can, I'll even include a sound file of trumpets blaring and a town crier saying Hear ye, hear ye.

Worth noting by the way that nobody made that mistake when Sword of Storms replying to your post when Sword of Storms wrote it. Odd since he posted your message exactly the same way I did.

@ Gregoshi, @ Demon,

thanks for your replies guys. Please do not overestimate the importance of this subject for me. It was just that I felt strange seing a discussion going on as reaction to my post like watching it from behind a half-transparent and hermetically sealed glass wall, seeing what's going on, screaming loud and nobody can see or hear me.

But it's not really an item I'll start to cry about.

Anyway - this does NOT mean that I will not insist on the trumpets - of course. Some waving flags with the writing Hal - the Great could be nice as well with some of my beloved people waving at me: http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Damn... I love that analogy you used http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Also: If you haven't noticed, you got the Senior Patron rank and with it the ability to post whatever you want anywhere you want.(except for the Tavern. You still can't post there. And the Watchtower and...)

@ Sword of storms

You expressed it far better than I ever could - like Welly once wrote: A picture says more than 1000 words http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

@ Demon

Analogy? What do you mean?
And thanks for the kind hint - in fact I've noticed it through your post.
