Hey just wondering what is better, MTW or STW?

Both are kool. Some would say STW is the first love with sparks and all. MTW is a great game IMHO.

STW will always have a special place in my preferences and altough Medieval is to a good game i still like to play the SP in the STW. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Pros and cons:

The setting is a matter of personal preference - I am more interested in the Medieval setting.

Shogun

Plus points:

Better atmosphere and chrome: the voiceovers (My lord, your peasants are unworthy...) and the assasination videos etc. The music's a little better too, IMHO.

The soldiers on the battlefield look a little better - eg they seem to fight, rather than just touch each other as in MTW

Minus points:

Hojo horde and kamikaze daimyos made strategic late game a drag

Some units on the SP battlefield seemed a little overpowered - Warrior Monks, Naginata and Heavy cav.

Medieval

Plus:

More variety: more and more varied factions, bigger map, many more units => vastly more strategic choices and some more tactical choices. As a result, I find the replay value of MTW much greater.

Minus:

AI problems with trade and army composition (too many peasants) make strategic game a little unchallenging but this can be fixed (eg Wesmod).

Bottomline: IMHO, MTW is excellent although STW was very good.
