hi@all to start with,

and now......

I have a question on how to use handgunners and aquibusters (or however they are called) effectively. I did some tests, and it seems that compared to even the puniest ranged unit they crumble. Their reload times and range are awful, and they just don't seem to dish out damage. I am sure that there are ways to make them own, but I am puzzled at the moment how to do so. I play as the Turkish (man how I love those jannisary units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ). When the gunpowder was discovered I allready had a nice set of silver plated Jannisary heavy infantery, and wanted a supermodern army to take on the Hungars, but I just can't get the gunpowder units to work. I am new to the strategy genre, so the obvious isn't always clear to me..... Suggestions anyone?

Thx in advance,

Bas

Heya Fragony http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

There are a few threads up allready concerning Handgunners and their proper use methinks. Browse the boards and you shall find what you seek http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Edit: You can find a thread on them on page 2 of the entrance hall http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

well handgunners are actually quite good at h2h. I think you use them like javlins ie get behind enemy ,get really close, shoot them in the buttocks and charge them.

Welcome to the Org... have you patched the game yet? As I thought gun powder was discovered a lot sooner then JHI become unlocked?

Anyhow it is not how effective an individual unit is in tests, it is how effective it is in combined arms and if it is a attack/defense, terrain/weather type of mission. I tend to stack more towards melee in attack and slow static troops with bowfire in defence (add a couple of horse archers in defense to bait the enemy).

Jannies are available in High so he must have started in early

yes they can be used quite effectivly with arbs and arquebuisers are better as they are more accurate (TBH you wouldnt really notice) have arbs in from on hold fire and aques behind them. when the enemy is quite close (not too close) order the arbs to fire. then they will lauch a volley and will kill alot of the enemy unit(especially if it is cav) then order the arbs to go back and then the aques will fire and this should make the cav unit rout because these are very fearfull weapons
