Someone started a war.

Hence, people become polarised.

What you see in The Tavern is just another example of collateral damage

I am offended by your use of the word hi.

It is not only an insult aimed at my cherokee/german heritage, but an attempt to imply that I, as a tavern regular, like to get high on the pot and make psuedo stoner-intelect arguments which you care to torch, much like the Union cavalry torched my great great grandmothers thatch hut.

You need to tread lightly, amigo, or else I just might get you fired for baiting.

Morten, the Tavern is not visible to guests, because they don't need to know it exists. We've had trouble with outsiders coming here and stirring up trouble with certain topics in the Tavern. Thus the Entrance Hall and the invisible Tavern. Posting to the Tavern is a privilege given to those patrons who can handle the responsibility.

My sense of humour is intact Welly, so don't worry about that. What you must realize is that there is a time and place for everything. Interjecting satirical politics into a Viking drinking song is not a good move. Belt out those verses of yours in a bar full of Vikings and something bad will no doubt happen. At best they will toss you out of the Tavern. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif At worse...well, let's hope you are a fast runner. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Wheeee Dueling Poets I canard-ly weight http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Yank voters/sports fans have sought 'parity' in the past 3 decades (for reasons too broad to go into here; suffice to say that IMO we seek to resolve collective cognitive dissonance on a number of issues) , seeking to pit distilled pure versions of ideology and teams against each other (to discover the best, one assumes). Sadly IMHO, that movement's unintended consequence has been the dilution of both teams and ideologies. Thus: left, left-wing, liberal...right, right-wing, conservative, neocon, etc have all lost their cache of significance, and Tampa Bay, a middling team, can win the Super Bowl. And anybody, even George W, can be President. Liberal here is only 2 degrees left of center; nothing like what the rest of the world means.

This public service announcement will self-destruct in 1 minute. We return you now to our regularly scheduled poet-duel.

I recall in the old forums there was a discussion about left-wing/right-wing and what it means in the US vs Europe - or was it the meaning of conservative? Anyway, I considered the possibility of different meanings around the globe when composing that verse. I ultimately decided to not let that get in the way of my clever leftwing/right play on words.

PART 1 - The Org

Now Wellingtons the Viking,
as Greggie would purport,
but all is not as it would seem,
persist ... a little thought.

Now Greg would say (and often does),
I'm flogging a dead horse.
But deceased Mares, as Greg knows well,
could never stay the course.

The Org would seem quite friendly,
and always was for me,
but when you delve beneath the skin
there's more for one to see

I've viewed The Org for 30 weeks
and contributions made.
How sad this unjust war has served
to polarise the staid.

Na' 30 weeks of Welly's posts,
our Dubya started war.
So Welly posted in The Tav
protesting and in awe.

If posting in The Taverns threads
ones viewpoint to enhance.
It really is a waste of time,
an anti-THIS-war stance.

Some forums may appear right-wing
with many pro-war baitors.
Within 'The Tav' are many such
(including Moderators)

The Politics within The Org are
funny to surmise.
It takes a war, with different views,
for Politics to rise.

By Politics I really mean
the facia of a forum.
May seem ok, but if you look
some folk have no decorum.

To dominate a forum so,
with pro-war views is bad.
Birds of a feather, flock together,
true - but also sad.

Next 10 verses (er .. next 36 verses&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif are already written. I'll post the next 10 tomorrow (hopefully - flood-controls allowing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

One thing. Question for the Mods. My flood control at present says minimum 420 seconds. Hhhmm .. at present I can only post once every day.

My last checks, over two days, revealed that the minimum was 6+ hours between posting

Now whilst this is literally correct within the minimum (a catch all - sigh) it's really quite hard to ascertain exactly what the allowable time between posting now is for myself.

Obviously I appreciate The Org's Moderators have no intention to waste Patrons/Members time and MONEY by allowing them to log on to The Org only to find they still cannot post

I also appreciate this may be merely a symptom of Iconboard - but if this is the case the Orgs Mods will obviously know what the minimum 420 seconds really means - because it does'nt mean what it says.

Hence, please advise me (in this thread) what minimum 420 seconds really means - in terms of time between postings. Is it 6+ hours, 24 hours or is it whatever figure a Moderator has chosen to apply but not advised the Patron/Member as such

LeeJackson - many people in The Org have tried the old trick of baiting people by searching for an individuals posts and always replying (in whatever manner) to such posts - merely to elicit a response.

Sometimes such activities escape the attention of The Orgs Moderators.

It worked for you last time in The Tavern - it won't work this time

Suffice it to say your comment in the Tavern God you're a dumb f#@k - really speaks volumes

Any individual can search for my posts and your posts and draw their own conclusions.

No further response from myself is necessary.

Groetjes,
Welly

Next ten verses of my 'Political satire' poem.

(Note: don't worry about the obvious sarcasm and exaggeration - this is quite valid in 'Political satire' http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

PART 2 - The Pro-war Lobby

I posted on against this war
and Politicians lies.
Whilst never crude, though sometimes rude,
as this poem testifies.

Should you peruse The Taverns threads
and check the posts therein,
an anti-war post is'nt wise
(it's considered a sin)

Now my mistake is obvious,
it's plain and very clear.
My posts galore were anti-war,
and that's not wise in here.

My posts, though often striking,
could never strike a chord.
Despite my prose, the're bellicose,
The warmongering horde

Such people think the only way
is guns and bombs and tankers.
We're all ex-Mil, and like to kill
(Jeez - what a bunch of *******&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

And should you post in such a way,
an anti-war defender.
Then believe me, you'll also see
You must have some agenda

Your anti-US, anti-Bush,
political agitator.
Your left-wing scum, your just a bum,
a flamer, troll and baitor

An anti-THIS-war voice to hear
such types are just unwilling.
They try and try, defend the lie,
to justify the killing.

They argue this, they argue that,
with verbal masterbation.
Whilst plain to me, they cannot see
there's no justification.

But all of this is not to say
I flame the opposition.
Merely to state that pro-war guys
have no moral position.

Hello Wellington,

Good analysis. There are humans beneath that skin. Different ages, nationalities, religions, political opinions etc. A spark is enough to make it blow.

Since this is a game forum for all ages in the first place, we do our best to avoid that. We expect our members to behave, not to agree with each other.

Flood control. Thanks for reporting this Wellington. I made a nasty mistake in the code. The report claims 420 seconds, but a part of the check contains a * sign instead of the intended +. Thus the intended 7 minutes became 9 hours. It should be fixed now, but I'll test it again.

Participating in Tavern discussions may be a bit rough now, thus you'll remain SP for a while. I've removed your extra flood.

Agreed. However, a stated flood control of minimum 420 seconds or whatever, which really equates to several hours does nothing to imbue trust in the intent of whomever imposed such a control - even it does turn out eventually to be a software bug.

To continue the saga -

PART 3 - Anguish and Cost

But whilst this conflict rages,
by those Land of the free
The truth behind this unjust war,
is plain for all to see.

This war is disenheartening
for one, at least, no glee.
Alas, how sad, this troubled soul
is noneother than me

But should you read, or worst still post,
of trigger-happy guys.
Beware the US-ex-Mil folks,
is really is'nt wise.

The reason being, though whilst sad,
such folk can't comprehend.
It is'nt insults to their creed
but just (the means? the end?).

Defend the war, defend our cause,
such arguments - assertive.
But little do they comprehend
they preach to the converted.

My view is clear for all to see
I despise Dubya's war.
I do not wish to see such things,
the bones, the blood, the gore.

Whilst Bush asserts he must remove
all WMD.
I comprehend, there is no end,
to Politics as he.

It's hard to see how one can be
supportive of this fable.
Whilst Bush + co, now have their war,
the World is far less stable.

But, less or less, the US Pres
knows not the path he's chosen.
He'll only heed the pro-war creed
(and others - just abhores them).

The USA, Guantanamo Bay,
ICC - what's the cost?
Despite debates, alas the States,
the moral ground has lost.

Excuse the terrible prose, I guess I shouldn't quit my day job just yet. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

The Tavern welcomes all patrons,
of every opinion and nationality.
It's main requirement
is to follow the rules,
on decorum and civility.

Tis true it takes two to fight,
on this we can agree.
But to resolve one's differences
by flame and spite,
is a distinct impossibility.

To always claim one is in the right,
a victim of unfair oppression.
Wilst ignoring the fools
who must enforce the rules,
can lead to a hard lesson.

The aim is not to change one's views,
despite what one may fear.
The only desire
is to put out the fire,
creating a friendlier atmosphere.

We are all only human by the way,
misunderstandings, unfortunately a given.
But saying sorry goes a long way,
in recovering the day,
forgive and thou shalt be forgiven.

So to practice as I preach,
that good leadership means, Follow me.
Let me be the first to outreach,
and sincerely beseech
that I am truly sorry.

Remember the line from the movie, Cool Hand Luke?
What we have here is...failure to communicate. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

I do remember Cool Hand Luke, it was a Classic movie.
When first released (in '68?), it was considered groovy.
Communications always key in solving misconception.
To talk, converse, and not be terse, correcting one's perception.
Of what is true and what is false and what is mere conjecture,
to clear the air, of words unfair, that others might respect ya
The consequence of trying not - relationships will worsen.
To seek (if found), some common ground, speaks volumes of a person.
Appreciation offer I (and shall E-mail you later).
I'll whinge no more, your not the foe, but just a moderator

HT - Thanks for your poem. Whilst I cringed in horror at the prose, the intention was warmly appreciated (bad prose appears to be an occupational hazard amongst you moderator - too much reading and not enough writing maybe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif )

Please also accept my apologies for any misunderstanding that may have occured. I'm now informed that there were some software bugs (re- flood control) that did'nt help in my understanding of some issues.

Another problem. I did try to contact you some days ago. What I found was 3 things :-

- replying to te E-mails I recieved (out-admin@totalwar.org) merely elicited a Delivery has failed reply.
- using your E-mail address on the Staff panel (hoppy84@adelphia.net) just got me a Telefragged 404 message.
- having been demoted I could not respond via The Orgs messenger feature

Therefore I have no absolutely no means to contact you. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

If you send me a quick E-mail (just a dummy content) with an E-mail address I can respond to we can have a private talk.

regards,
Welly

Morten Viking,

It was a joke. I was sort of poking fun at people who argue with one another, then revert to insults vieled as commentary, then threaten to get each other banned for mutual baiting and flaming. Things like this also lead people to accuse others of baiting/flaming because they read between lines that aren't there, hence my reading between the lines of your post.

And on that note, I am deeply offended by your use of the word jargon. It is an obvious attempt to interject the character of Jar Jar Binks into an otherwise serious discussion, and the fact that Jar Jar is gone, which assumes that he was actually here at some point, which also offends me.

You better watch out, or I might just have you fired for baiting.

PART 4 - Problems in The Tavern

As this damn war, maintained it's flow,
I'm fighting my own battle.
But 'midst the strife, and loss of life,
some Tavern posts still rattle.

And whilst one parried to and fro,
the words were not too civil.
But all in all, whilst meant to gall,
my posts were hardly drivel.

But posting such was never much
adherance to the letter,
Of rules inshrined (some Mods opined)
you really should know better.

I've been accused (and hence amused)
You think your always right
Quite so, I know, (but don't we all?)
I'll offer no respite.

We warned you once, we warned you twice,
and NO - you can't complain.
So now your posts are 1 per day.
Oh dear - it's school again

We now impose some flood-controls,
because of bad relations
But it would seem, you can't redeem
yourself with protestations.

And try as might to question this,
the sin to clarify.
An E-mail gone, a second one,
Oh dear ... no reply

Try as you may to have your say
all contact now seems hidden.
I wonder why, what'ere I try
contact is now forbidden?

With no response, I'd given up
but that is not to say,
I shall accept such ignorance,
- so sorry - just my way

But to be fair I do not care,
if contact is restrictive.
If thats the game, it's such a shame,
but people are vindictive.

PART 5 - Flood Controls

So flood-controls came thick and fast
Your posts are now abusing.
(but when 6 minutes means 6 hours
- the reason is confusing)

One hour later (or quite close)
a second warning came.
We warned you once, and now we act
Good God - it's me to blame

Now if your posting thick and fast,
for warnings just beware,
'cos certain Mods are very quick,
two posts, one hour - not fair.

Whilst such decisions may seem harsh,
nay, hasty is the word.
Beware the jabberwock approach think about this one
the truth may not be heard.

You may not query such response,
you must not question so
Such questions prove embarassing
... some Mods don't want to know.

From 105, to 315
to 420 and more.
What motive (or agenda?) for
such flood-controls galore.

When several minutes flood-control
equates to 6+ hours.
Is this a sign of certain Mods
abusing of their powers?

Now it would seem that's not the case,
but just a software error.
It's not a Mod, who's playing God,
imposing their own terror.

I've now since heard, from several Mods,
the fault was always current.
Confused? - you bet (but not to fret)
software can be abhorrent.

Confusion reigns and 'midst such pains
intent is 'oft mistaken.
But now I know a software flaw,
is guilty, well, ok then.

PART 6 - The Org's Moderators

But lets now move to other things,
consider ones reaction.
When E-mailed words remain unheard
it's merely a distraction.

Now if you are American,
or British, then beware,
Some Moderators do not like
a different view - not fair.

I'm British and I'm proud of it
and view people as brothers.
How sad some US moderators
disregard the others.

Whilst politics come into play,
whatever is your creed.
A biased Mod would tend to be
discrediting - indeed

So Welly's been demoted
and his flood controls are high.
I don't hedge bets, I've no regrets
- I know the reason why.

So if you are a moderator,
Stateside born and true.
And served your time with US-Mil
the next verse is for you.

Do some Mods words, their reasons why,
comprise a mere tissue?
Ex US-Mil, and had his fill?
Is that the real issue?

Do place of birth and service served, effect
some Mods decisions?
I'll never know, if that is so,
but retain my suspicions.

Be careful how you form your words
don't make your meaning clear
'cos trigger-happy's not a phrase
some Mod's would like to hear

Now this is not a bash, per-se,
at Moderators actions.
But if they thought, before they did,
they would'nt need retractions.

I am offended by your use of the word okay.

It is an obvious jab at my home state of Oklahoma and its terribly generic license playes which say Oklahoma is Okay You have never been here, and you have no proof that I married my sister.

You better watch out, or I may just have you fired for baiting,
