I was playing as the turks and had conquered all of the most valuable provinces, with an annual profit of 3000 florins when a message came up saying plague had struck across the world. suddenly I had an annual loss of 3 to 4 thousand florins. I finshed 83000 in the red.

It was now impossible to all the map. I conquered another 8 provinces by moving troops from all over the world. The trouble is there are too many provinces where large armies are needed to stop rebel uprisings.

Anyone else think the rebellion system is too harsh?.

Well, build Border Forts and set the taxes at Very Low for a few years... that should keep them away, and after a while you can raise the taxes... Never have less then 100 men in a province either....

I only had problem with rebelions once, and that was when i attacked an ally, and of course when my islands get cut off from mainland.

I only have one unit in each territory exept for those that i have common boarder with other factions.

I always build boarderfortress in every territory i have, its the second building i build.

I play on hard and i can have the tax on very high.

so i dont know how any can have problem with rebels

I think the plague may have had something to do with your unquiet masses.

Another suggestion I often see that works is to keep your king near or in unhappy provinces. His distance seems to generate unhappiness.

Also, be aware some provinces are more likely to rebel than others.

Rebellions can be useful - to train your men with high valour, your generals with victories, and your coffers with Florins taken from the poor sops.

Being merciful seems to increase happiness, or so I hear.

The Table of Contents (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=2273) has a thread or two about rebellions. I believe you can also prevent rebellions by improving (building) the province.

I have found a spy or two helps keep the people in line (plus, they look cool). Moreover, remember to convert those new pronvinces to Islam, and it helps to appoint governors with not only high acumen, but at least a couple points of dread.

Which in turn leads to smaller garrisons and rebellions... http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein_1/eek2.gif

Nice jaw Lord http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As to the very first post here: I can see that it is frustrating if you have to have several units of troops to garrison Sinai (?) which hardly generates 150 income. And then there are several provinces like that... Keeping them is financial stupidity, but then you have to conquer to win.... I hear there is a MOD that kind of improves the value of these marginal provinces.....

Watch towers, border forts and town guards all give nice plus to happiness and can help you to avoid rebellion.

i find a church works well (or whatever its called for each religion) as its stops enemy religions taking over or takes over from the other religions

College of Surgeons is suppose to ease what the plagues affects on ur faction, I have never noticed a difference when it happens as I build happiness buildings everywhere. Don't forget the town militas(& up), farm improvments, border forts, churchs, mosques, ribats, monasteries, reliqueries, cathedrals, grand mosques & brothels as these improve happiness. Also check having a govenor improves happiness especially when they have good vices but watch out for bad ones, I don't mind the ones that loose money on low income provinces so long as tehy don't cause unhappiness. Remember if ones province revolts it might cause teh provinces next to it to revolt. I use spies a lot they r great & have nor support costs it just takes a long time to move them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
