You say you have an Intel graphics card? is this integrated? give some more system stats and os , I started playing MTW on my Dell 4550s with integrated video at 16mb and it played very slow, I had to upgrade my vid card before I saw an improvement...Edit:Once you give some system specs and OS I will copy it over to the Apothecary for you, But I suspect it is your vid card memory if it is integrated it is only probably 16mb. Which is kind of low for MTW(It might run somethings ,but the battle map alone is around 30 megs and that card probably cannot handle it)

This may seem like a dumb answer, but have you tried reinstalling? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

wolf,

unfirtuneately....i have tried that particular hope several times...each time with the misguided belief that this time will be the magic time that everything works and the world is suddenly a wonderful place to live....still no luck

Hi hyde, and welcome to the .Org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Before we get you digging into your machine to find out what you have, try this: when you've fired up MTW, but before you go to any Load Game or other map...click options and turn everything down; un-click flora and smoke, turn the music down and off, you get the idea: everything down to minimum. Or off (un-clicked).

Then try to load a campaign, and report back here.

I have a kind of low-end machine here (also an HP Pavilion laptop w/integrated vid card). With everything turned 'off' or down, I still get some white patches, but the game's playable.

khan,

thank you for the welcome...and i would be much obliged if you'd send your mongol hordes over to thoroughly pillage and plunder my piece of thrash computer...heck...i'll even grab a battle axe and join in on the fun...as you can tell from the comments...still no luck but thx for the advice...the world map still blanks and whites out shortly after opening...i see all the chess pieces...representing the armies.princesses, emmisaries, and all that...just not the world map...it is a completely blank white page...this is utterly depressing...hoping someone in here can eventually help me...if i don't manage to plunder something soon...i fear i'll go into withdrawls

OK then, what we likely have is a video/rendering problem.

Assuming you turned everything down or off in 'Options':

1) change your resolution. Do this:
- on any blank space on your desktop, right-click your mouse. A menu will show up.
- See 'properties'? Left-click that word. A screen will pop up.
- See a 'Settings'tab on that screen ? Left click that. About 2/3rds of the way down on that screen, you should see a slider-looking thing that will show your current screen resolution (it probably says: 1024x768, or bigger numbers); put your cursor on the slider and slide it to the left, until it reads 800x600.
- Click 'Apply' . You'll get a little confirmation screen asking if you really mean it. Click 'yes'.
- Your screen might flicker a second or two. Then your desktop image will be smaller (black bars at the top, bottom and sides). It's OK, you can change it back later.
- Fire up MTW; check 'Options' to make sure everything is turned down or off.
- Load a map; hopefully, you can see it, without whiting out. Then:

2) Look on the front of your computer tower. Find the model number of your HP Pavilion (should be below your Power On button). Or, if it's a laptop, look top-right just above your keyboard. Report back your model number.

Good luck Sorry if you knew how to do all this already; I meant no insult. I just took you at your word that you were computer illiterate. That's fine. We all were once. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Hi Hyde, thanks for the advice Kukrikhan, I do not know if he tried the last bit you suggested, but to me it sounds like the vid card cannot handle the world map which is around 30megs, if he is seeing somethings but not the whole map that is what makes me think it is vid card memory.Hyde I copied this over to the Apothecary for you . hope you work things out mate.

I'm concerned about the video card (adapter). Are you sure its one that specifically states it is supported on the MTW box? You'll really have to find out exactly what it is, so you can download the latest drivers for it. I would also like to know if the graphics 'card' is integrated into your motherboard, or a separate card in a pci or agp slot.

I have a feeling from what you have said that you have an onboard graphics chip. Its unlikely this is supported by or up to running the game properly regardless of drivers. as such I would like to know if you have a agp socket on your motherboard and also the speed of your processor. If you can't find this, just some idea of how well your set up copes with other recent games would do.

I wouldn't be too disheartened by your lack of success so far, I'm sure if its a relativly modern computer you'll be fine once we get to the bottom of your problem.

Quote[/b] ]24 bit tru color

This would seem to suggest a poorer graphics set up, most modern cards with the correct drivers can do 32bit.

Quote[/b] ]Intel 820 chipsets are not supported. Many other graphics cards do not support alpha blending and may generate graphical problems in game. You must have a Direct X 8.1 compatible graphics card to run the game.

are you sure you meet both these requirements?

I agree, you guys. Vid card/drivers probably. He being the puter n00b he says he is, I'm guessing he's never cracked open the case to upgrade anything. Hence my request for his model #. We can find out from HP what he has inside, then, and recommend tweaks/fixes.

Yes, used to have a PC with the Intel I 740 card....not useable for gaming. Sounds like you have a standard multi-purpose card. If you do much gaming suggest an investment in a new card. RAM will help also and is fairly inexpensive and easy to install.
Good luck,
