Apparently they are small groups of like minded individuals who enjoy nothing better than bickering and bitching amongst themselves and other clans.

Once such bickering and bitching gets particularly boring, members are free to leave (acrimoniously is prefered) and join a new and different clan who may then experience first hand the slandering skills (particularly in respect to the previous clan) of their new member.

Over time, most clans experience a complete change of personal, websites and Daimyos. Particularly boring clan members find, over time, that they have tested the patience of most existing clans and thus have a problem in further honing their talents.

Such members then generally start a new clan, recruit new members and train up such newbies in the noble art of bickering and bitching ...

... or, alternately, start posting in the Tavern http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

andto elaborate on that....

a clan is a group of members who enjoy eachothers companie and fight in battles together.

to join a clan u need to just play a few games and try to fight a few clan members after a few battles they will either ask u to join or they will expect u to ask.

some clans will put u through a test fight, but most will just let u join.

my own experience was that i played SPQRCaligula over several battles for many days and the idea of me joining SPQR was raised.

lets just say im now SPQR__Knight_Yellow and apart from our founder Octavion im joint in command of onw of medieval total\wars largest clans if not the largest.

our clan is not just MTW either we have players who play Battlefield 1942 and medal of honour as well.

Whoops ... I almost forgot.

Poor spelling and atrocious grammer are also apparently pre-requisites for Clan membership http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

eddie, joining a clan is a decision made by the person and the clan - both have to like each other. What you need to do is get online and play with some people from different clans. These players usually have their clan name at the beginning of their name. For example, ShadeWolf and ShadeDredd are both members of Clan Shades. Anyway during the battles you will interact with them and you'll probably find that you like the people in some clans more than other clans. Visit the clan web site of those clans you like and tell them you are interested in joining. Also find out if they have any rules or restrictions (Canadians only, for example). Most clan sites have a join or recruit forum for you to ask about joining them.

At that point, it is a matter of you getting to know the clan members better and they get to know you. This will be done by posting in the clan forum, maybe online chat and fighting battles together. After you know each other, and you are still interested in joining, the clan will decide if they think you will be a good clan member. If they do, you are in. If not, then the search for a clan continues.

You can go to the Barracks forum and post that you are interested in joining a clan. I'm sure several clans will approach you. There are a few such posts made recently there. You can also go to our main page (www.totalwar.org) and look down the right side of the page. There is a list of links to MTW clan web sites there.

Good luck in your search for a clan.

eddie, I think Wellington has had a bad experience with a clan (or two). Some people actually like being in a clan. Some have almost made a profession of it. One of our moderators (Ith?) mentioned he's been in 9 clans since the STW days. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Sorry Greg - I'm in one of those funny sort of moods today http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

The truth is, I've never even played on-line. Therefore my entire knowledge is gleaned exclusively from reading the posts of other clan members on other Orgs forums.

Especially the bickering and bitching ones http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Clans are an interesting idea. It is not so important as in Shogun, but can be great fun.

As you are prob aware, SHADES are not so active here now-a-days, but we are still alive and the others are playing other games, Mainly BF1942.

So if you can get in with a good group, of like minded people, then the clan ideal can go on for a long time....

It just depends what you want froma Clan and why you want to join one......

Hi Wellington,
You haven't even played online so you haven't got the first clue on how clans operate m8. Clans are all about online gaming, and playing with people you know and trust with respect of their tactics. Please offer an opinion on something you know about. Having a go at someone on their grammar and spelling is just petty.

You only need to hang around the Barracks or Jousting Field to get some sense of what Wellington is talking about. There are time when things get a little http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/argue.gif between clans - heck, even within a clan on occasion. Sometimes they kiss and make up http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flirt.gif , sometimes they don't http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif . But you are right, it can be a very rewarding experience. It was in my case.

I've played against a guy named General Wellington. that's not u?

Anyhow, these little http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/argue.gif among clans are normal i think, since many of them are involved in competitive games. Occasionally, unfortunately innocent bystanders can be affected too by these political atmosphere.

A friend of mine who was a fresh MP player (we both started together) was trying to join a mature competitive clan hoping he can have regular friends to play with and improve his skill as well. In short, he passed a few battle auditions. but maybe he did all too well during the audition that he somehow managed to get himself suspected as a spy (NOT accused) from another clan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif . Perhaps there are some details we're not aware of, but we thought it's funny. fortunately he took it as a compliment cuz not everyday a newbie is mistaken for a veteran lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So learning from his experience and having read some clan politics 101 at the org he stays as a ronin while I decided to join a new clan that is free from political heat http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So far like gregoshi said, for me being in a clan has been a rewarding experience, i'm havin fun with my EXcaliber mates. I've been in the foyer for almost 3 months and I found most clanners are good people, polite and helpful towards each other. For example, that Elmo guy and Yuuki didn't mind teaching me some stuff, and i was a stranger to them. So Eddie, if u wanna join a clan someday make sure u tell em that u r eddie from the org. that way u won't be mistaken for someone else http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Also there is a non competitive group called UGLI (unversal gaming league international) that plays MTW and other games. I think one rule for being an Ugli is to play for fun and don't take things too seriously while wearing an ugly jersey. Another rule is to admit that you are UGLI lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif U can ask ElmarkOFear for the details, he handles everything and maybe also the ugliest http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
