Much to everyone's disgust, EA is the only place to play online. The EA servers had many problems and were down quite often at time. There was an effort to setup an independent server shortly before MTW came out and it seemed to be semi-successful. However, I don't think it is running anymore.

Hi Eddie,

Over the last 5-6 months, the EA server for MI/WE has not been down and appears to be working relatively well. If you have any problems logging in, please refer to a recent post of mine, which addresses a few common questions. It also has a few tips on how to log-in if you experience any difficulties.
