View Full Version : Annoying great distances

Hi folks

I finally decided to join the guild, because that german MTW forum i used to post in until now is not very inspiring to me any more.

So first of all forgive me my lousy english, if you would be so kind (Escpecially the commas... I don't know about english commas...)

But here's my question:
Has anybody managed to make troop movements over larger distances on the campaign map somehow more economic? Let me explain it with an example.
I started a campaign with the danes and therefore my navy opens me the gates to the world. And I decided not to free the holy land by fighting my way through over land. I'm making a sea invasion instead. And because my troops have grown strongly and large in numbers I want to take the rest of middle-east with me. So this is where difficulties begin for me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
The production centers of my kingdom are in the far north of Europe where the sun never rises during winter. So I have to move my armies over the whole map to Jerusalem and Tripolis making it a scroll orgy that takes me several seconds to finisch a single army's move (using mouse and key scrolling). Well, having over 20k men ready makes it a dull experience....

So I ask you: is there a way to avoid that? Or at least making it a bit easier? Any suggestions? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Hmm, you might try to zoom out as far as you can. I can't remember if zooms out to the entire map (guess not), but at least it will save you some seconds.
Then again, if it's a small target province and crowdy, this might be hard to pull off. And my apologies if you did already try this.
There's no other way around I guess.

BTW, welcome of course

I thought so...

Even if I zoom out to the maximum, I can only cover about two thirds of Europe I think.

The thing with overcrowded Regions is a point, too. The only alternative I can think of by now is to capture a province somewhere around balkan or constantinople and use it as a pit stop. Might be a bit hard to explain to the Byzantines or whoever is living there....
But I hope the programers will give us the oportunity to give an army or even a group of armies a goto xyz-order in RTW.

Well, THX for the answer

Hi Sundance

After the patch, it is a little easier. Here are a couple things you can try:

The patch added Z, X, C keys: Z to hide all agents or all army stacks. X to hide yours or AI (IIRC). C to hide castle.

Use arrow keys combine with mouse to scroll faster. You will be able to scroll faster when zoom in. If the distance is about half the map or less, you can try to zoom out to max, then use Z, X, C to hide things that get in your way.

As to the screen size: did you try upping the resolution to the max? If you have a nice 19+ monitor that might help, maybe with a 21 or so you will see the whole of Europe at 1600x1200 ?

I did not test it myself, and the question is if the game will be playable at such res...
