hello. anyway, the obvious choices would be ghost in the shell and akira, but i also recommend Ninja Scroll. Its set in feudal japan (isnt everything?) and is gory (bonus&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. hope that helps

No problem Kensai Achilles, thanks for thinking of our Junior Patrons. The Entrance Hall has no forbidden topics (except those that violate the Forum Rules: CD-crakz, etc), although non-game-related topics get the axe sooner when it comes to pruning time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My son introduced me to Ghost in The Shell. Definitely a good recommendation.

Because im a nice guy (that or i have TOO much time on my hands), here's a link to the anime section of amazon.co.uk, who have an overwhelming amount of dvd's and vhs
DVD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec....2170810 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-0377360-2170810)
VHS: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec....2170810 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-0377360-2170810)
p.s. Urotsukidoji - Legend Of The Overfiend / Legend Of The Demon Womb is full of naughty, dirty things (Cough toon porn Cough), so i would steer clear of that

Although not a movie, I would suggest checking out Cowboy Bebop. Its a fantastic 24 episode series about space bounty hunters, mixed with a great musical back drop.

'Ninja Scroll' has already been mentioned but I'll add to the previous comments by saying that it is my favourite anime ever It has a little bit of 'sexually-orientated' material but nothing I wouldn't let older kids watch. (It has an 18 rating in the UK) The story is excellent, although as with most Japanese anime it sometimes loses something in translation.
Also, check out the 'Fist of the North Star' which is set in a post-apocalyptic world and has streetfighter-style characters with awesome powers.

I don't watch a lot of anime but AKIRA is a classic.

I also like Cowboy Beebop a lot. It has a great style. There is also a Cowboy BeeBop movie being realsed in the US soon.

Metropolis wasn't bad either.

You can also get some nice anime shorts from the matrix guys. They have 3 free anime shorts set in the matrix world you can download.

i have to agree with Parmenion, Ninja scroll is my greatest anime ever to http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. so well animated and story very good to for a manga. hehe i also agree with his mention of Fist of the North Star, a truely grusome anime even by manga standards.
The Professional: GOLGO 13 is another good one, a little old but still is great to watch, and some good smaller animes are the Cyber City series, and Devilman 1&2. oh, Goku:Midnight eye is another great 2 part manga. i have forgotten several more clasics im sure but these will do you well for some time.

thx for the all the input folks, at this rate i'm gonna be real busy this summer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

and kukri didn't the org just have a house clean up recently, so the next one is gonna take a while right? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif so keep posting guys before clean up day is coming http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've seen some movies mentioned above and yeah i like them too. I wish the ol' Akira was made as shiny as the newer ones like metropolis. animation technology wise that is. does anyone else feel that most characters in AKIRA kinda look alike?

I have a copy of GITS for a while but never watched it since it's not in english. now that some of u have brought it up i'm gonna find the subtitle right away, thanks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I think i've watched Ninja Scroll couple of years back. i'm trying to remember if it was the stand alone series, or was it GITS. I was so obsessed with completing other collections back then i can't really remember.

if it's in cartoon network channel's adult swim (U.S.) chances are i already have em. I like cowboy beebop too. I was tired of rerun so thats pretty much how my quest was started http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'll look into the other titles ASAP thx guys, keep it coming http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Last Vampire: Blood? Heh, didn't that have like maybe 10 actual sentences in the whole movie? But anyway...

For movies i'd recommend Iria, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heavens Door, then of course the usual Akira and Ninja Scroll. However, some anime is better just as a series.

Ones like Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, s.CRY.d, Full Metal Panic, Trigun, and Kenshin are good along those lines.

Oh, and if you can get subbed anime instead of dubbed, while you can't understand what they're saying it gives more atmosphere to it. The reason I say this is because a bad dub(ie, bad voice acting) can kill an anime. Of course, there could be alot of bad voice acting in the original version too, but without speaking the language i'd be hard pressed to tell.

Samurai X(or Kenshin Ruoronin) OVA (the 4 part series) really good, better artwork, more gore then the regular series, hell of a story too don't get the movie, that wasn't so great.
Cowboy Bebop is another of my favs, the bluesy soundtrack is good stuff
You should check out Patlabor 1 and 2, from the same director as Ghost In a shell i think
Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke

Lighter stuff like Love Hina (not porn) good too, funny stuff.

I'm a rather rabid anime fan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif. Alrighty then:

Movies:

Jin-Roh (a bit slow paced, but good)
Akira (not as good as the manga though)
Ninja Scroll (a classic, there's a TV series being made that follows the movie)
Ghost in the Shell (and the sequel, Innocence, is in the works http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
Spriggan (for those who like action)
CB: Knockin' on Heaven's Door

Series:

Cowboy Bebop
Rurouni Kenshin and the Samurai X OVA, and Reflection OVA
Sol Bianca OVA (sheer eye candy here, done by the same ppl who did Armitage III)
Saishuuhieki Kanojo (sp?)
Trigun
Hellsing
Aquarian Age
GitS: Stand Alone Complex
Geneshaft
Witch Hunter Robin
There's more, but I just can't remember then right now; I've about 80gigs of fansubs http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif .

EVA, RahXephon, Noir are good, but I think they're overrated.

does anyone know where i can get the whole fist of the north star series on dvd?

Kensai Achilles

Not forgetting the mother of all giant robot mech anime, the Gundam series

I thought it was Voltes Five.

Oh, and if you can get subbed anime instead of dubbed, while you can't understand what they're saying it gives more atmosphere to it. The reason I say this is because a bad dub(ie, bad voice acting) can kill an anime.

I agree with u. I have a complete dragonball, dbz, dbgt and they are in 4 language. I like the original best and also switching to different color of voice takes getting used to and can be annoying too. Fortunately the english dub is quite close if not funnier sometimes.

Brave Fencer Musashi

it's not just a playstation game?

---

how about some funny stuff? have u guys watched Slayers Next and Ruins Explorers? i heard they are funny. both of them are about adventure of female and male characters who possessed sword and magic skills.

regarding the bad dubbing issue, does anyone own the DVD version of Ghost in the Shell. The half-second delay between voice and animation is noticeable, but didnt really spoil it for me.

I'm adding one more to the list: BERSERK.

It's a very good classic series, I'd give it 9 out of 10. Lots of blood in the movie though so it's a bit gory. The movie is about the swordsmen Gatsu and Griffith. Gatsu is a stone cold warrior while Griffith is a scholar type. Then there's Casca, a female warrior among them. Together they lead warriors called The Band of Hawk. The Hawk is a small mercenary group to begin with, but later on they grow into thousands strong cavalrymen. Demonic influence adds spices to the strories late in the series.

I heard rumors that they are planning to make more BERSERK series... It would be great but I fear it's not going to become reality.

Kensai Achilles

Berserk manga is still around i think. Btw for lighter series and good humor, One Piece is a good movie choice. it's about bands of pirates.

Hey I watched Fist of the North Star. The main character is Bruce Lee heheh
