Well I wasn´t aware that new community members can´t post - even vote - in the other forums until I wanted to change my name to ELITEofGAZOZ....now I must stick to LionGAZOZ

Do you think it is fair to new members to have such posting restrictions? Don´t the org admins scare them all off?

And *cough cough* is 500 posts not a little too much for getting the right to have an own Avatar, you urge me to spam guys

Gazoz, you'd be surprised how few are put off by the policy.

If you would like your name changed, send an email to Tosa at tosainu@totalwar.org and more than likely he will change your name for you. It has been done before.

As to the 500 posts, people here will not let you spam to get there: it's too many posts to go undeteced http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Personal avatar: you will grow to see this being less important than your good name here.

but a good name isnt org admin stuff is it?

and there are even more important things in life than the org

but here and now I am just asking for an avatar

Yeah Gazza
You right about the ORG.
If u post most and spam and have nothing really to say u become avatar.
I see many just starting topic in Tavern or replay, and get some wierd status as moderator.

try the onw word story topic. they practically give avatars away there http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Way too many people attach way too much importance the whole avatar business. It is like their life is meaningless without the freedom to choose their own avatar. This world would be a much better place if everyone concentrated more on what they have rather than what they don't.

well gregoshi you gotta admit that the avatars at 500 are causing a lot of spamming . its too tempting not to spam a bit to reach the 500 limit...

I strongly agree with SmokWawelski's comment. It's the good name that is more important to uphold. You'll find that more people will be more receptive to your posts and less likely call you names like spam boy.

Take Jay for example, He has way pass the 500 posts mark ( though we are of the same batch ) and almost all his post have qualities in them which makes him one those more popular members around that people like to interact with.

I concur. Although I am new here myself I find it refreshing when a community chooses to emphasizes quality over quantity. IMHO this only reinforces the value of a good reputation while discouraging spam and neglecting the community in which you are participating.

I like the 500 post for a personal Avatar, makes me want to contribute over a period of time and earn the right for my own. I was going to comment on the inability of junior and senior patrons to post messages in that most intellectually stimulating of forums known as the Tavern. However, I noticed that I had just been promoted to Junior Member, so I take it all back.

LOL

I simply asked for an avatar as an user of this forum, who just thinks, this org is a place related to Total War, a funny game

if that´s too much, it´s ok, I didn´t expect such serious education/philosophy posts

no reason to make a mountain out of a molehill

I couldn't honestly care less about the avatars, but there is ONE thing I find weird: The fact that new users can't post in all of the main forums (Colosseum, Main Hall, etc). If this restriction was dropped, it's not like those forums would become a cesspool of flaming and prejudice or anything.

(Oh and can I get promoted already? I've got enough posts I think http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif )

Gregoshi
04-15-2003, 15:22
If you really want to participate in the main forums, then you should be willing to have the patience to get there - usually 1-3 days. If you participate in the discussions here your promotion will come much faster than if you post once a month.

The restriction makes sense if you want to stop non-TW riff-raff from entering our forums and causing trouble - which has happened in the past. The current posting policy makes it too much effort for them to cause trouble. They have to invest time and effort in order to cause trouble. They can't just register and then start flaming away like they could in the past.

The Tavern posting restrictions are even stricter because that is where 90% of the trouble happens.

This statement is so very true and recalls an equation for life that that has been attributed to a Buddhist:
Happiness = desire / consumption

Sorry for the off-topic post.

Panther, Junior Patrons cannot post to the Apothecary. As I recall, we did talk about this possibility. However, many of the techies, including Kraellin visit this forum often so support isn't much different than in the Apothecary. If there is an unusual problem or a tough one, we will move it into the Apothecary for more a little more attention and to archive it there.
