View Full Version : Problem with fighting large battles

I bought Medieval Total War the day it came out and I ran it perfectly fine on my PIII 550 MHZ with Geforce 3 and 256 MB of SDRAM. Just recently, I upgraded my machine to a beastly P4 2.4 GHZ with 512 MB of SDRAM and the same Geforce 3. All of a sudden, whenever I get into a large battle, such as the Battle of Hastings, the game is choopy to the point where it is not even playable. The mouse pointer skips all over the screen and so do the soldiers on the field. I know I have well over the recommended system requirements and I upgraded my video card drivers to the newest OFFICIAL detonator drivers. I also upgraded the game to version 1.1. The funny thing is is that the performance of the game degrades the lower the resolution goes. What's up with that?? If someone can help, I'm all ears. Thanks.

Sound card almost certainly, do you have a soundblaster by any chance?
Take a look at Official support page (http://www.totalwar.com/community/support.htm#medieval) and follow the sound card acceleration advice under the 'Known sound card problems' section, hopefully this will sort you out. It did me on my old machine.
Oh and by the way welcome to the .org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Hope you enjoy your stay http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
