I think mtw is the best medieval game but empire earth takes it everywhere else....

(hint to CA) Now maybe a game with RTW's graphics and the scope of EE would become the best RTS/TBS in the history of mankind... Just imagine the beaches of normandy with Rome's graphics... (wishes again for a drool smilely)

Empire Earth was a flop :P Medieval was PC Gamers best game of all time last year I think (#2 was Deus Ex and #3 was Half Life). It's epic and amazing, and because it isn't an RTS it doesn't turn into a big bundle in the middle (like even Cossacks and American Conquest do).

I haven't played all of them, so I won't vote just yet. Out of the ones I have played, I like Medieval: Total War. Just my opinion, but Europa Universalis 2 deserves mention as well.

I would no sooner compare Total War to other RTSes than I would compare an RTS to an FPS. They are that different IMO. Not like apples and oranges either. More like apples and pork chops.

I have played AOK, Cossacks and EE.
AoK even the conquerosh is rushing kindergarten, EE stinks with goofy magic, Cossacks is has ist´s good points and actually has naval warfare, but MTW beat the heck out of them all with both hands tied and blindfolded. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Although I voted MTW, I find it great that you put Earth2150 into the poll, one of the most underrated RTS games ever. It was one of the first 3D-RTS with great graphics and a very long and innovative feature list. But most people dismissed it because they couldn`t handle 3D (wonder if these critics had driving licenses). Nowadays every game has 3D and most like it. It`s not fair
Nevertheless, TW is superior, no other game has that battlefield-feeling.

well since the total war series is not an rts u cant compare them.

but out of theothers id say that age of empires 2 gets it. simply awsome.

(empire earth was made by the same guy who made aoe and in theend turned out to be aoe in 3d, so for lack of originality i dont rate it that mutch)

Dont want to agravate you or anything but IMHO Empire earth was a big disapointment. In SP random maps, i've yet to see an AI that cheats like that, even on easy settings. No matter what, the AI must not cheat brutally in the easy settings in a game that is supposed to have an economical model. It just shows the developers either didn't know what they were doing, or they thought that the inicial surprise of an AI that could put up a fight (although cheating like hell) on easy could somewhat compensate for this...
Not in my book it doesn't...
But to compare MTW and Shogun to other RTS games... It's kinda hard ain't it?
I preffer to compare MTW with Shogun... the original and the follow up.
I prefer MTW right now but Shogun was the first... It was a harder concept to do... Overall it must have been harder to make shogun than MTW. In MTW the idea was already there... so although i like MTW best i vote for shogun... its like comparing two F1 cars.
