How can they have good defence when they are not wearing any armor at all, seems kinda silly to me.........
BUT can't wait till I can use these guys =)

Yeah that IS pretty weird. I mean the whole uniqueness of the berserkers is the way that they went crazy in battle (attacking). I can't imagine how one can go nuts and slaughter everyone when he's waiting for the enemy to come to him heh.

I think they should have the worst defense in the game.

Perhaps it is not the ability to block, parry, and deflect blows, but rather the ability to take them and not be affected.

With only 12 men in a unit they better have some good defense or they will be wasted very quickly. Even with no armour they are supposed to be good fighters and that should give them some defense too.

As Gregoshi said, the best defense is to attack, yes?

We can, I think, see the clansman as a type of a berserk-like unit now. It is pretty OK to me.

Mucho better than Hashishin, they only cost 375 florins compared to the impossible cost of the Hashishins. Also their defense seems better and their attack and charge MUCH better.

But hell, if they didn't have some good defense I would never train them... I mean come on, 12 men that would fall like flies if they faced an enemy that could actually fight? Nice, I just wasted 375 florins and 2 years to kill one enemy unit. A real good tradeoff.

Yeah like me these days.
I played mostly MP but now am playing SP mostly.

I am now in a VERY interesting campaign as Al-Muhads, civil wars etc etc. Just built the infrastructure necessary to train Hashishin. The Hashis are absolute killers. In MP given the opportunity, I have used them to devastating success. They gain valor like it's nothing. Of course because of their fragile dopey state http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif they have to be handled very carefully.

They are too expensive, and taking two years to train when Janissaries take 1 year is very strange math to me.

I think the Beserkers will function in a similar manner except they may have the Hashis weaknesses ironed out.

Yes Gregoshi,but let's not forget that they are outnumbered in every engagement,so it'll be like 1 berserker vs 5 enemyes.
The defence of a unit depends very much on it's armor,and there is now light armoured unit that has a too good defence,but these lads had NO armor.
Only units that aren't heavily armored but have a good defence are Billmen,JHI(they are only armoured),though I might be wrong here.

Personally, I think we are dealing with individuals who could take an axe to the gut and laugh. These are pure fanatics with pain thresholds boosted to the max by consuming drugs and devoting themselves to their gods. True to history? It does not matter. What CA has put in the game IMO are 12 angry men who shrug off hits not with armor, but with resolve.

Just think Kensai; like those dudes, it doesn't matter the odds, they take a licking and keep
hitting. CA has made ridiculously damage-resistant units before and they will continue to do so. Don't complain, just laugh as they rip through a horde of your enemies

Can you imagine the crazy amount of Valours they can rake up in a rebellion...

Berserkers: 576 killed, 203 captured, 5 lost, +5 Valours.

Ahhh... yup they will rule any lowend unit like it was their old mother.

In the Persian Wars mod that I am building ... Bersekers are a strange unit. They have an armour piercing weapon and a very good attack. They can do quite good against most barbarian units in the game. I separate them in two the Celtic with a doublehanded sword and Germanic with a small wooden shield and an axe.

They are quite good at disintegrating a unit BUT Faced against southern armies like Hellenes, Romans, Etruscans, … etc they are only good if they flank the units or attack a unit that has been stopped (not charging) If you through them in the way of a charging Phalanx you can kiss them goodbye since they will be overrun and routed on impact. There advantage is that they run faster than these units so they can regroup and attack again witch in not very realistic either.

Well, they had to make this 15(?) men unit capable of doing some damage somehow... It is still OK with me: I count on the fun factor when using them, and we know that the game is focused on playability, not realism anyway. So keep them comming: I am waiting.
