Hello all Let me introduce myself. WarHawk. Untill I got my new system I mainly gamed SPWAW. The period of medevil Japan has always interested me. So I bought STW:Warlord Edition. The tutorial was great. I did have some problems with my e-machine:

System Details.

Processor Intel® Celeron® Processor 2.20 GHz (w/ 128KB L2 cache & 400 MHz FSB)

Anyone with this machine I advise they upgrade thier memory to 512 mb. Also get the latest drivers ( Driver Revision: 6.13.01.3460) from Intel Corp.

Prior to my upgrade I had the following problem:
The tutorial would load and play , also the set battles. My problem was when I would try to play the campaigns. I would select the campaign, clan and movie would run. The trouble as the task bar for loading the campaign would load it would get to 20% and I would be boot back to the desk top. The above fix cured that problem.

Afterthe upgrade I deleted STW:WE and did a defrag, clean full install and I installed patch STWV112. Campaign runs for how long, thats karma.

New problem has shown itself: tutorial menue and preferences menue vanished. I loaded the patch to my STW:we folder. did I do something wrong. how do I get those menues back? I liked practicing in the main tutorial battle.

I hope that my solution to my first problem helps someone here

Hello WarHawk http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif It was refreshingly nice of you to provide a solution to a problem along with a different problem. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

As to your second problem that doesn't ring a bell. I searched the tech forum and archives and found no references to such a problem.

I've posted your problem in the Apothecary here (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=2;t=6125;r=1;&#top).

Welcome. I too am interested in the period in Japan before the Civil War, the Civil War itself, and the Shogun period (into the 1800s). Eiji Yoshikawa wrote several books, a couple of which have been translated into English. One is called Musashi. The second book is Taiko. Both very very good books. I've read each of them several times. I enjoy all of the Kurosawa samurai films (Yojimbo, Sanjuro, The Seven Samurai, Hidden Fortress, Rashomon, The Throne of Blood, The Shadow Warrior, etc.). Have you seen the Samurai trilogy with Toshiro Mifune? It's based on the story of Musashi who lived through the Civil War period. I just bought the movie Chushingura but I haven't viewed it yet. I've watched both parts of The 47 Ronin. Part 1 is on DVD, but part 2 is not. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif I started a website devoted to STW (My STW Webpage (http://gary.appenzeller.net/Shogun.html)). I include a list of good books, movies, and I have a timeline of Japanese history that I gleaned from two books I have at home. Thought I'd make a few recommendations, in case you haven't heard of some of this stuff.

Anyway, welcome to TotalWar.org. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I like to thank youn all for your welcome.
Gregoshi, Thank you for posting that problem. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
It is a shame that gaming companies can no come to a standard acceptable to them all in the matter of graphics and audio. It seems they are in cahoots with the computer companies and there Part distributers to constantly keep the public bying computer systems.

Hindsight2020, my interest stems from the the book Shogun
and I have seen a few of Kurosawa samurai films on cable thats about it. What books I can chech out of the public libray I've read. I use to own Sword of the Samuri for an earliy 8088 IBM which I loved to play. No longer own it. I wish it would be brought back. To be honest my interest just started. If you like fiction which I 've read you might like to read Sensie I :Sword Master and Sensie II :Sword Master by David Charney about the Taira and Minamoto period.

My real passion is American Civil War and the Pacific Theater of World War II. I highly recommend down loading SPWAW from Matrix a free game. Also they have a free game on the Pacific War in the Pacific.

I fixed the problem :What I did was install the patch directly to the folder with the STW:we instead of the STW folder. Installed it correctly. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Those books you mentioned sound interesting. I'll have to look them up. Let me know if you read any of the books I mentioned -- particularly Taiko and Musashi. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Since you're interested in the American Civil War, did you read the Shaara books? If so, have you tried to read the two volume set about the American Revolutionary War? I'd recommend them highly. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Anyway, welcome -- again
