Howdy folks...
Anybody know what the exact wording is for Alan Mercenary Cav in the Startpos text files? Trying to mod Russia a little more favorably and wanted to toss some of these guys into some of my provinces at the start of the game, but I don't know what they'd be called and what the unit size is.

D'oh I'm used to posting in the totalwar.com forums where you've got to type your username in everytime, and didn't even notice that was the Topic field that I put Blackball in. Sorry. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif Hello Blackball. Don't worry about the little error. I think it will draw people to your topic. I was wondering why you wanted to blackball the Alan Mercs. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
BTW, sorry, I can't answer your question.

According to the crusaders_unit file it is just AlanMercenaryCavalry (no spaces). Think that will work. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

You're welcome.
The default is 40. But if you play using bigger units (using the slider in the menu), don't forget that the sizes of the starting units are always just what is listed in the startpos file-- they don't change. So if you play with medium or large units, might want to make them a little bigger to get the effect you want.
The Byzantines actually start with a unit of Alans, so just check out their section in the startpos. I think its in the province of Trebizon.

yes the Alans are in Trezibond. I find them great for getting at the Turkish horse archers nice and early. But I believe they are only in the Early Period not in High or Late.
