Somewhere early on in a campaign, I'm sure this has happened to you.
Situation:
You've reached the point where you're ready to start upgrading the training ability of a province. You right click on it, and see that units of Funicello Mouseketeers get a +1 when trained in this province, and you decide to build up to those.
Problem:
Having not played the the Disney faction much before, you can't remember what it takes to train them, so you pull out your handy Technical Tree, if you haven't lost it already, and try to locate that unit. You squint and finally find them, since you couldn't be sure whether they were cavalry or archers or what. You double check that the color coding indicates your faction can make them with the correct buildings. You see the buildings they require, and open the building window. They aren't available, so you turn over the Technical Tree, if you haven't lost it already, and you finally find the buildings you need to make, and start building.
Two turns later, when the first of the required buldings is done, you repeat the whole process again, if you haven't lost your Technical Tree in the meantime.
Solution:
The system knows what is required for that unit, and knows what you don't have.
What I would like is this:
1. When you right click on a province and it shows a special unit advantage, TELL ME if my faction can't build them. Simply state Factions X, Y, and Z can recruit Slobbovian Cheesethrowers with a +1 to morale here.
2. Have special units appear on the training screen with a red border around them, whether you can currently make them or not. You'd think the governor would tell me before I order him to recruit more peasants that his province excels at training Itenerant Swordswallowers.
3. If I don't qualify yet for the special unit, give me a hint when I click on that unit in Training. Give me the name of a building I need, don't have, but can build right now (assuming I had a big enough castle.)
Maybe I'm lazy, but hey, it's not like things that are going to be the same across all regions; eventually I'll memorize the progression for improving farmland, but I may never memorize what it takes to build Funicellan Mouseketeers if only the Disney faction can make them. Give us a break on special units. And it isn't like I'm asking for game secrets, that information is on my Technical Tree (where did I put that?)
I think this would make management easier, and doesn't require the game to keep track of any information it isn't tracking already. All I'm asking is that it display a little bit more information, rather than make me dig for it and squint at the small type.
