Battle of Jaffa Help please

hi i am playing the demo of medeval total war...i am at the last tutorial called battle of jaffa....how do u beat it?

there are so many enemeies coming toward u and are all spread out...all my troops end up runing and end up dead. i get so confused and overwelm..

i dont have a clue how to be set up at beginning , etc...thanks

Setup close to the castle walls and keep your army together. Put spears in front and archers behind them. Do not leave gaps between spear units. Put your army on hold/hold except the knight units. Important: do not chase routed enemy units, at least not in the early stage of the battle. Your #1 priority is to keep your army together

thanks so i should set up near castle....what formation and line i use when i put my spearmen in front of archers..do i group all my spearmen together?

same for archers how should that be set up? and my foot knights and general knights.

If I remember correctly you have 4 spears and 4 archers. Make an unbroken wall out of your spear units, this means that they should be in a quite thin formation: 2 ranks deep. Put 1 archer behind every spear unit, archers should be also in 2 or 3 rank deep formation but not deeper. Put your knights into the centre of the formation and use them to reinforce weak spots. Be careful to keep your spearmen in position.

i am planning to buy this game soon..hope it not too hard and complicated to learn it..

question i have is for this battle of jasso....dont group the 4 archers together and 4 spearmen together right?

i notice on your diagram it shows the two other archers behind the other two archers in a slant..and the four spearmen in front right and the knights in middle behind the middle spearmen right?

i hope i have time to position my self before the enemies all come..any tips in making formation the way u recommended for my spearmen and archers..

like i said i am new to this game....thanks so much demo was fun..

In general it is good idea to create groups according to left wing, centre, right wing. In this case it quite simple: left wing 1 spear, centre 2 spears and right wing 1 spear.

Since you are the defender you have time to deploy before you hit start battle button. I don't remember the demo but at least you should have.

i am having a really hard time getting all the men into that formation quickly..

Hi jb.

What Cheetah was trying to say is that you can set your army up in the formation he told you before the battle begins. Before you click on the Begin battle button, click on each unit and then click and drag it into the formation (2 long rows of spearmen) where you want it. The unit will immediately appear in that location in the formation you dragged it into. You can do this for each unit. You can also issue other formation orders too. When Cheetah said to put your army on hold/hold (except your knights) he meant hold formation and hold position. So, you would then click on each unit (except the knights) and issue hold formation (F key) and hold position (H key) orders. Only after your army is in the position/formation you are happy with do you click on the Begin battle button.

i am sorry but when i try to pick the spearmen and archers , etc before i click on start battle..i am unable to make the formation by draging and moving the units where i want it..it wont do it at all...

Make your Spearwall 3 men deep... The front 3 ranks of spearmen can fight at once (4 ranks for Pikemen). Anything less and you may have reduced effectiveness with your spears.

Place your archers 1 or 2 rows deep behind them and you'll be sorted

I like to place knights behind and slightly on the flanks so they can run around and outflank the enemy... easy.
