View Full Version : How do ya \"fix\" reinforcements - plz provide feedback

Well, a lot of people are upset over this random placement of reinforcements and the issues it causes. Lack of "realism" (especially on river maps), the huge rout issue it has caused, along with other more minor irritants. I have yet to hear anyone come up with an idea for a fix. So - here is mine.

The idea of having reinforcements come in a line from one spot on the edge of the map is flawed - to easy to concentrate a huge force right there after your rout the initial units. The reinforcing unit passes the first tile - sees itself being shot at and surrounded and outnumbered - WHAM it routs as well. On the other hand, having units pop out on the other side of the map where they are unsupported and much closer to the enemy than to friends also causes quick routs and fast fatigue. So I propose a solution....

Given the size of the maps - if a unit would reinforce from a semi-random point on the map, semi-random meaning anywhere on its OWN entrance/exit edge - it would be MUCH more difficult to immediately route the unit by overwhelming force. Running back and forth alone would tire your units out so much they would be ineffective. In addition - an algorithm should be added to keep at least a minimum distance from the spot the last reinforcing unit arrived at - so that you do not have a single file line of units - but rather possibly a single rank of units coming in somewhat close to each other, but not close enough that they all rout because they all enter too close to the entire enemy army.

Thoughts on this idea? Or other ideas to fix the issue? Perhaps if one is viable it will be introduced in a patch.

Also - plz note I am NOT wanting this to go into a debate as to whether or not it needs fixing. If you feel it doesn't, then this post is not meant for you. Plz respect that. If you feel it does need adjustment, those who post on this thread will know WHY, so plz deal with the HOW question.

Good idea, but I think it should be your side of the entire map/river instead of just the edge. Also, since reinforcements only affect campaign battles, it should matter whether you own the provinces behind the provinces you're invading. If you do, then reinforcements should be able to come from that direction. If not, they shouldn't.
