View Full Version : Castle Siege
I've always wondered, why the heck is the castle gate OPENED? It's kinda like saying "come on in to our lovely castle, oh dear besiegers".
Not sure about the Japanese art of castle warfare, but in Europe, most of the efforts were spent in breaking through the gates/ scaling the wall, correct? Once you get through, the castle is pretty much done.

The idea is basically that the game designers didn't feel like developing a particularly realistic siege/assault model. The way it is the besieger can never run out of supplies, and when it comes to an assault it is a total farce in which the gate is open and you basically fight to get in thru the gate. Fixing the problem with sieges would be as simple (or as difficult, however you look at it) as reworking the unit supply and support model. Fixing the assault problem would probably involve a helluva lot of putting in new units and unit formations and unit techniques (such as adding siege engines, and giving units the ability to scale walls), and it would also involve making castles much, much larger and more interactive and complex.
Anyway, they haven't found it worth their while SO FAR to deal with either of these issues, and I can't blame them THAT much.

Ya, I guess that's where the Crusader Total War comes in.
Thank you for the explanation.

Yes, because they probably had the choice between a simplified siege and none at all, they opted for the first. And thats good.
