well guys, i think its time we had one of these, and i think it would be an awesome event. What i would like to know first is how many people do we have here from sydney, or in NSW that would attend a M:TW LAN?

i for one would love to, and perhaps we could organise something for late January next year

Count me in and probably a couple of my mates.

I've been thinking along similar lines myself. If we hired a small community hall and got everyone to bring PC's... that'd be a good day, I reckon.

ok, i was thinking something like that as well. I hope that we might be able to hire a school hall or something, as school ill be out at this time, and perhaps run the event over 1-2 days?

well if somewone could pick me up from central station in Sydney i may be able to train down from BrisVegas for a few days - i'd need to borrow a PC though...

well barocca, it would be great if you could make it. First things first is to sort out a location though. I think we should make it as close to a tain station as possible, perhaps not central though, as hiring in the city would be costly.

I have an idea of a location, but i might have to check up on dates first. I dont think we could hire it on a weekend, but a weekday perhaps.

hmmm....sounds like a good idea. i dont know if my pride can take playing in multiplayer style though.

god i am actually shaking at the thought of not being able to use my pause button.

I LOVE THAT BUTTON http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

might be fun to meet some felllow MTWers though.

could be fun although my PC won't fit on back of my bike. Could sort something out I gues.

Might have to start practising without the pause button and moving my army as a whole instead of indivdually

well how much room would you need?

well for the size of the place it would mean finding out how many people are interested

it would be nice to get about 20 or so.. but i tihnk im dreaming there

I know there's some other Sydney MTWers around. I might post something over at the ezboard and at FBZ.

I think the biggest challenge would be to get the PC's. Could we just not rent out one of those PC cafe thingy's or aren't their machines up to it?

If it's b4 the 7th, I could come. If it's on a weekend, I'll bring Jen.

Cheers

count me in, Itd be cool to do that, although my machine is pretty chunky, I like the idea of hiring one the internet cafe places with their machines, although mine would be able to fit in my boot if it had to.

How soon do people think this will happen im out of the office now til the 2nd of jan so wont be checkin in til then, so if it happens b4 then ill have to miss out.

it was a toss up between moving this to the Jousting Fields or the Barracks, but it was moved anyway. Enjoy

I'm on holidays from now til the 2nd so I can't do anything between now and then, but it looks like it's something that may take a couple of weeks to organise anyway.

While I'm on holidays, I might see what details I can find out about hiring a cafe or something of the sort.

well it wont be happening before the 2nd of jan... thats too soon to get something like this organised.

as far as the internet cafe's go, that could be a good idea, but also expect to pay a lot more $$$ just to play. Personally i prefer to take my own PC along to LAN events, we just need to get people to organise the ip setting beforehand, so as to save us a lot of time.

i can get hold of a 50 port hub as well, so thats no problem

a cheaper option would be under someone's house - like we do in brisvegas,
i live under an old queenslander (highset), we have a concrete slab under the house (as well as my room), so it's enclosed, we regularly have up to 20 peeps with equipment...

not a bad idea barocca, but here in sydney there arent many houses like that, but as far as hiring the hall goes, i wouldnt expect to pay more that $20 a head including food costs.. thats for 24 hours

Just make sure it's after jan27 2003, as I move to Sydney on that date, while I won't have a puter, it will be good to meet some of you crazy UV happy, sunshine shy people.

Actually In New Zealand we have had a "Hub" going for about 9 years now, every last saturday of the month, about 50 to 100 of us get together and play games, swap info etc... three years ago we got a purpose built facility.
www.lanplace.co.nz

It even has webcams http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif and big screen projectors (2 of) for game viewing, helpful when playing those mean aussie clans that cheat to much http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Costs are on the site and hiring of monitors etc for the day are also there, and 100 MB bandwidth (about 8 ping to game servers, PS: we also have our own games servers).

Actually I might have a puter? Might borrow my mothers computer, and reconfigure it for gaming and chuck my hard drive in http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

cool, well come the new year i will begin to find out how many people are interested. It would be great to get about 20 people, not too big, but not too small. And perhaps we could increase that number for another one if successful
