View Full Version : Christianity potential greater
Being the first one to take the cross makes for interesting situations in the xpack. With the half cost and double speed of builds, muskets come _fast_, even for the lower income westerners who see them first. With my Uesigi game, where I can throw my economic weight behind the effort it is awesome. I own Imagawa's old western lands, isn't bribery wonderful? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif I got a good harvest, started churches in every province I controlled and then started a cathedral the next year in one province and Portu trading posts the next.
The cathedral gives 1600 koku a year, hasn't changed for the last few years even with my priests spreading across Japan busily converting the population. Just used my guns for the first time in a battle, so I expect I will see conversions starting to go on soon.

A question: Can you convert people BACK to Buddhism?
Buddhist temples provide the same function as churches, which is why my temple is in the same province as my cathedral. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif That province was noticably slower in converting up to 100%.
You should be able to raze the churches in provinces you conquer to stop their effects.
Don't want to get into the religious debate...
But isn't trading with merchants and converting by the priest two entirely separate thing?
The time that Christianity and Firearms past into Japan were also different. No idea why STW associated them together as usually rich merchants cannot get into "heavens" anyways http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

maltz
the game does this for a reason
the portuguese represent the way christianity of the day was
twisted and often the opsite of what they practised many religious people, especially high rankers cardinals, etc, were extremely wealthy and the portuguse trading offer represents this corrupted side of christianity while the dutch represent the traders that came to japan from europe
i think http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

when i first got stw i always went christian and have done in every game of stw i have played. because of this i had almmost never had any monks in my army and only really realized how good they were after playing MP
I have never abandoned christianity nor embraced budhism and the MI serves only to enhance the bonuses of christianity with cheaper churches and reduced build times. In the original stw i had musks by the late 1540`s tho i suspect now i could acheive this by 1545 in the new game, 20 years before the dutch bring these guns across

Algesan:
-I think there is an option to demolish buildings and disband troops (your's) and get some koku back. You will find it in the strategy map screen, on the bothom panel, immediatly to the left of the button you press to view the throne room. It says that "this option is only active when a unit or building is selected".
-1600 koku a year in revenues in koku if you have a cathedrall, that's equall to 8 ports, some serious Koku. COOL!
Algesan and Yoko Kono: have you noticed , if there is more Christian revolts. re they easier to provoke? Do Priests pushing-up the christianity population level in a province that has a Budhist daimyo cause any revolts?

Yes, but it seems that Christianity seems to make the revolt a Christian samurai revolt more than a normal revolt. I really need to finish a campaign, I keep flipping back and forth between them. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Anyway, one annoying thing is in my Shimazu 1580 game on the ronin island. I own Iyo and Tosa while Mori (my ally, hehe) has Sanuki and Awa. Well, Sanuki fell to a Christian ronin revolt finally, but Awa continues to hold out. It seems that each time the rebel taisho decides to withdraw, but has nowhere to go (Awaji is also Mori) so the army dies. This did take a lot of Shinobi in the provinces also.
The cathederal giving a heavy incentive to turn Christian is good. But do churches give you any koku bonus?

Churches dont give any bonus on their own
The cathdral actually gives a bonus of 100 koku (i think) per church in ALL (i think again) Japan
so if you have ten churches then build a cathedral u should, in theory get an income of 1000 koku from this
Another easy money spinner is trading posts, by building ports and trading posts at a province u gain 400 koku from that province
With regards to chritian revolts it seems far easier in this version of stw to convert provinces to 100% christian and u can send preists into enemy lands to cause revolts
sending 10-20 priests into a lightly guarded province will almost certainly cause a christian uprising (asuming the province is under enemy buddhist control)
and remember christian uprisings may lack monks but they do have guns
