Just want to post a friendly jibe to
all those generals out there who flame my
favorite online faction, the Russians, in
the in-game chatroom (you know who you are lol)

Russia may not be the most popular MP choice,
but if you use the right strategy, they are
a deadly force.

I have quite an unbeaten streak going using the
Russians and to all those who have stated to me
online that "Russia is the weakest faction" or
"Russia stinks":

That is why I have started playing with them. WHen they said missile units were too weak, I started playing with an all missile army. people a re soooo stupid

i have won all my battles of late without any spear units, so who says you need them. Russia have all the heavy infantry you need, halbreds and foot knights. they are not lacking at all.

Russians have many strong points go and and find them..Then use the correct tactics to make the most of them..

Let them underestimate the Rush-On army The faction is hard to play with but won't roll over without a good fight

steppe cavalry is actually quite good as well.. they seem to be able to eat a lot of enemy knights up fast, though they dont have the same staying power

Hmmm...interesting...I've never had a fondness for Steppe Cavalry. Although they are one of fastest light cavalry in the game, the only I've ever seen them useful for is chasing down routers...but that's it.

I couldn't agree more with you there....Russian are great.

I get so tired of seeing people picking Spanish for the Lancers or HRE/Italians for the Gothic Knights.

Steppe are pretty good if you are playing a low florin game and can't afford Boyars. However Steppe's are useless in a head-on fight....so you need to be clever (and lucky) to use these guys properly.

If you are looking for a faction though with cheap light cav then take the Polish. THere retainers are great, reasonable price and can hold there own against must cav in a head-on fight.

Yes, Starkhorn, I have found Polish Retainers quite underrated. Good light cav unit.

I read some odd replies here.
'Steppe cav are crap'
'Retainers are underrated'
I have killed 1600+ using Russians, my steppe cav each killing more than 100 (one unit had 158 kills) It was head to head fighting and my opponent was Byzantine. Another time they disposed of a few units of under rated Retainers.
There are ways in which units shine and also ways where they die fast.
