Do I need broadband for mp?

As it says in the title,

I fancy trying multiplayer but am still working on a crappy standard dial up connection.

Is it workable with this or am I wasting my time?

Oh yes and my multiplayer option on the game menu is always greyed out and I can't figure out why? I've applied the patch 1.1 so figure it should work

I have a 56k connection and it work...i can host also,but only single match or max 2vs2.If you see much people on foyer also this games can be laggin and not so good.

Like the honorable LordJimi pointed out, 56k modems work in MP, just be careful not to host too large matches, perhaps set unit size to small. Turn off fauna and other unneccesaries and you'll be fine methinks.

If the MP option is greyed out m8, it might be because you aren't connected to the net? To play MTW online you also need a gamespy account.

they work but dont expect to get many games, theres a certian mistrust of 56kers id recomend broadband but a 56k should work.

I wouldnt recommend hosting at all for a 56k'er, its a bit unstable but it works fine when joining. Just stay out of really big games. Good Luck in your endevours.

I played old STW (laggiest of all TW fames) with a 33.6 for approximately a year and had few problems...

I have/do use my modem on 33600 and it's fine, i can join 3v3's withouht problems. You don't need broadband, but it is nice.

MTW is actually very isp friendly... You do not need broadband at all other than for hosting 3v3's or 4v4's... as long as you got a smooth running pc with good specifications (least the suggested demands i'd think).

I rather have a 600mhz 128 mb 32 mb vid card 56K which runs at low MTW graph/pixel/sound settings and having a smooth running pc join up rather than a 1200mhz 256mb 64mb card adsl whose pc is nicely said a big mess running at highest possible mtw settings(oh and leaving lots of other proggies open at same time) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

To join game, you don't need broadband. In fact, stable ISP is better than DSL of crappy ISP.

would you object if I were to convert VanyaSharima (and possibly other of your maps) to MTW?

Would you be willing to review the map and "okay" it? Assist in the conversion?

I agree with Vanya. In MTW, a good pc is more important than a good connection. This game is quite of a system hog - make sure your pc runs 4v4 default unit size without big problems of mouse lag etc if you want to play MP to the full.

Hi Tigger nice to meet you.

56k works fine in most cases. but a number of notes need to be taken....

- 2v2 should be your max game, anything else will not run
- A better idea for a 56k modem, would be to join a broadband hosts games - There are always plenty of people hosting these.
- Attempt to make sure that you have very little running in the back gound when u launch MTW.
- Try to log online and then launch the game after you have turned the PC on - Never spend 1 or 2 hours messing about with other things before doing it. You leave too many programme in the back ground.
- Have fun (HF) and dont be scared to ask people for help.
