View Full Version : Port Invasions
I've heard people say that in the X-Pack, the AI now uses port invasions, but they never used them when I played. Can someone confirm whether they do or not?

I've been playing as Takeda on expert(1530)and let me tell you that yes,the AI does port attack now.Sneaky Shimazu port attacked me in Aki,and he didn't have any provinces that bordered Aki,so he must have come by sea.Fortunately I had a small force with an heir there, and Shimazu attacked with a force only a little larger than mine.I defeated him,and he kept attacking for several seasons, though with a smaller and smaller force.Be on the look out for this new tactic by the AI.If you have an important castle and training facilities with a port, there is the possibilty that you may be port attacked.
My port in Sagami has no training facilities and the AI has not bothered with it,Thank God!

I haven't seen it yet... But i think it's mostly because i do a lot of counterspying and because i like killing enemy emissaries...

I haven't either, but I think for the reasons Aeon suggested. Emissaries get ninjaed and I get constant reports of ninja and shinobi getting killed in my ungarrisoned port provinces.

Hosakawa Tito is right. Port invasion can be use by BOTH, you and AI. I always make sure that I have strong army on the province with port. I attacked the AI port before but to do that you must be able to see the AI province that has port. For example, if you are Shimazu, you cannot port attack Hojo's port province. To attack it, you should send Emissary, Shinobu, or Ninja to that province so that you can see that province. Got what I mean?

Yes Ratta, and another thing I noticed is that just before my port was attacked an enemy emissary "visited" my port.I suggest keeping a ninja in your important port vacilities to eliminate these spies.Building a borderfort or using a shinobi there will help guard against enemy shinobi.I like this new feature, even though it ties up precious resources,it is much more realistic.

I agree, make border forts and keep a good ninja in the province.

Could someone tell me how you do a port invasion of a province you do not border? When I lift strategic units (emissaries, etc.) it highlights enemy provinces with a port, but doesn't seem to do the same with armies unless I am bordering.

Koga, on turn 1 you place a strategic unit in the province, this makes the port available for invasion the next turn. On turn 2 you invade with your armies. This is one thing that makes Christianity worthwhile, cheap spys that also prepare the people for your coming. Hmmmm, at the risk of a bit of blasphemy, you could call them your personal John the Baptists. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
