I played my first couple of King of the hill games tonight and had a fun time. This mode has a lot of potential to be really really fun if only a few things were fixed. Like for example, make the reinforcements come in in a more organized manner. The way it is now, it feels like one unit comes in one side of the map, then the next one comes in on the opposite side, etc. Imagine having to coordinate this mess into some form of coherence. And to make matters worse, the enemy army comes in the same way so what you have on your hands now is one big clusterf***. Imagine having your units and enemy units coming in one unit at a time from every single side and corner of the map! There needs to be some form of organization coming in.

Honestly, I'm trying my best to come up with some sort of praise or compliments for CA/DT but I can't come up with anything. I originally wrote this post as nice as I could, but frustruation set in and I just had to add some more stuff in.

I have no doubts that CA does not even know how to playtest their own game! Sometimes I wonder if they ever eat the dog sh** they're feeding us.

I do agree that the units coming in from different sides of the map really just kills the idea of replacements completely if ya ask me.

I would say also that your post is a bit harsh ... totalwar has to be one of the most unique and fun to play games. The developers have done a real great job as far as I'm concerend ... some wierd ones just seem to have gotten through. maybe in a patch.

Do you hate the game ... I dont know how you could if ya like strat games. ... broaden your focus abit maybe?

Actually from what I've read on these forums the chaos of random reinforcements sounds like fun in a king of the hill game.

When these replacement untis get routed, do they also run in all directions?

i've also heard that some folks dont like the way reinforcements now come onto a map, but i would simply offer this: think of the way they used to come in on a map, one by one all from the same place. so, what would happen would be that the person ON the map already would simply camp at this location and pick off the incoming units one by one and that makes for a very poor gaming experience.

in king on the hill the same thing would apply, and in fact, be even worse because as your units die or rout in koth (king on the hill) they get resurrected from the dead and come back in again to fight. if you only have this one point where they come in from, guess what's going to happen?

the way to play koth games is really pretty simple. knowing that your units come from all over you dont move your view to that unit each time a new one comes in, you sit your camera at or near the white 'hill' circle and direct your units from there to come towards or near the hill. when they begin to get close to the 'hill' you begin to utilize them against the enemy in however you think fit.

koth games, to me, are far more fun than last man standing. it focuses the killing zone to one central location, and in a way, makes managing your units even easier than in last man standing because you know where all the action is taking place.

yes, it's confusing when you first start playing this mode. units are spread out all over, and come in at varying times and then come back again from somewhere else. it is different, but once you've played some games and understand how it works it's really quite a fun style of play. i just wish more would play it :)

Kraellin, for King of the Hill, I think the new reinforcement plan would be perfect. However, for Last Man Standing it makes for even worse abuse than the old method. Now I get to butcher the follow on units by.....

.....camping the enemy end of the map. This assures me that the reinforcements do _not_ come on the map and rout back off, but come in farther down the map where I can engage, rout (usually by just coming close to them) and chase them into one of my slow units for final slaughter.

One thing is that it does not apply for the human player as far as I can tell. I have been short a unit for more than 15 minutes with a spare unit in province just to test this and still have never seen a reinforcement arrive.
