In the old game, I thought the deal was that if you didn't build a buddhist temple before building a church, then you wouldn't get many revolts, because you hadn't turned buddhist. Now, playing Shimazu 1530, I accepted Christianity before a buddhist temple, and the populace STILL went mad with revolts all over the place (even more than in the original when you went buddhist first). HUH?
Default you are buddhist. When building a church , you go christian , but your followers are still buddhist , and do not tolerate your religion. Place garrison before building a church , or your country will be shreaded by revolts.

Humm, I suppose the population were already 100% buddhists by default. Says who that you need a temple to spread buddhism? Remember, those monks have PORTABLE shrines.

Temples do nothing but produce monks. you are all buddahs 100% at the start- all of japan is, so when you convert to christian and build churches - they get upset. That is the only choice you have - whether or not to turn christian.
I'd like to see temples produce little 'monks' that you can run around like priests that convert the populace. This way, you can send in a legion of monks (not battlefield monks, of course) to convert a christian daimyo's lands to the ways of Buddha and thus cause religious revolts there!

Technically speaking, you are an atheist before you build either a temple or a church - but since the peasants don't know what atheism means http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif, they are always Buddhist by default, and thus have nothing to complain about if you "convert" to "their" religion through building a temple.
30% Christian = 70% Buddhist.

Be on the look out for your rivals accepting christianity to get guns.On the diplomacy parchment there will be a cross by the clan name.Send in your shinobi horde and watch the fun as your rival's peasant population goes ballistic. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
