I don't often get angry and I try to understand when EA makes some sort of decision.

For everyone who doesn't want to read the link: there will be no more patches for S:TW and the Multiplayer Campaign is uncertain.

I'm furious right now. I'm actually getting worked up over a game.

Even though most of us realized that there would be no patch or multiplayer campaign after we purchased the add-on or the WE, it's still disheartening news to hear it from the source.

From the single-player only standpoint, I can mostly understand EA's decision to close off further development a year since the release. Even though I don't play online much these days, I do feel its a slap in the face of the online community. Games with multiplayer capability live and die based on the online community. By not supplying the long promised v1.13 patch, EA isn't allowing the people with the old version to play those of us with the new version, creating a schism in the community. This isn't a situation where an old game is being superceded by it's newer, much greater sequel...this is a year old game that got a slight upgrade. Keeping the two communities apart is wrong. Even if the players with just STW couldn't play games involving new units, there should be a patch that allows them to all be involved in one place.

It's hard to imagine that a patch that seemed almost ready except for waiting for the add-on to finish to make them compatible, would be such an easy thing to drop...

And, once the EA server for STW is shutdown, there will be no internet play at all for the old game. I don't know when this will happen, but you can see it coming.

Can't say I'm surprised, but can't say I'm pleased either. I wonder how much effort had been put into the patch... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

On a happier note! BSM_Skkzarg-san particularly and the rest of us .org patrons in general have been congratulated by the Shogun at the Community Forum as well, with the same post as the one in the Bug definition/description (http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001849.html) thread. So let me add my own congratulations and thanks here as well.

EA shouldn't take all of the blame. CA could patch their games if they wanted to, without permission from EA. Gaming companies do this all the time. It's just that CA doesn't want to.

IMO they're shooting themselves in the foot. After the support they have shown, do they expect me to buy Crusaders? Part of the reason AOE II and Diablo II were so outrageously successful was the level of support they gave to the community.

From now on I will NEVER recommend or mention Shogun or Crusaders to anybody.

I'm just curious if you guys ever experienced this sort of practice by another company, i.e. is it something that frequently happens or is it a fluke. I had a fair share of fun with this game (granted we could have more) and i don't want to play the devil's advocate but, it is only a
40$(canadian) game.

I'm gonna explain myself Jaydee: I bought "reach for the star" for 69.95$. Total playing time: about 8hrs. Then i bought STW for 39$(+tx), total playing time: well look at that...i'm still playing. That's what I mean.

BTW would you like to exchange your copy of STW:MI for a spanking new copy of RFTS...

no ???, even if you make a profit ???

Thought so http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
