It happened again, and I am starting to think that is is part of the game. Last time my 82 year old daimyo died in battle all my province revolted. Well, he died again and this time all my provinces revolted. So, someone (Yoko?) suggested that maybe my empire crumbled after my daimyos death...so now I am wondering what will happen when he dies of natural causes http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif well, that's an incentive to become shogun as quick as possible!.
any thoughts on this?

Well I would suggest pumping out the Shinobi so that you can keep teh revolts down.

I think this is part of the game
when u think about it its not that odd
if your daimyo dies whats to say the people will revere his eldest son like they did him?
if that son has 8 battles and like 6 losses and another `ordinary` general has won 64 battles out of 64 then that general would be my choice if were peasant
such a general is more likely to be a strong leader and thus more accepted by the people

I am gonna do some in game research on this. I will use Takeda Shingen as my test Daimyo( his 32 wins will ensure the people at least like his ability) I will see how likely revolts are when he dies in battle; or natura;lly; and also what happens if his eldest son is a good general or a very poor one and also in respect to his other good generals, whether or not they are better gens than his sons
I will post my findings on this in the next day or so

No, rank has nothing to do with it. I had Tokugawa Ieyasu succeed Imagawa and they still went mad.

I know its annoying to have this happen to your carefully constructed realm, but at least it makes the end-game scenarios more interesting. In STW I often quit my campaigns once I owned most of Japan because mopping up the remaining enemies was boring. Now, the potential for revolts means that the strategy map is more important and that you can no longer afford to ignore it.

I think if you do as DP suggested, pump out those shinobi, have at least one in every province.Watch your tax rate too.Build border forts, especially in port provinces to guard against enemy shinobi's stirring up your peasants.

That so funny! I just finished a Takeda campaign... had tax rate at punitive the whole time... and never had a revolt! Sure I had large armies and tons of honor 6+ shinobi running around... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif My shinobi even spawned a revolt in Shimazu's domain that resulted in the return of Oda! Now THAT made me laugh! Oda owed his existence to my whim!! YEEEHAAAA!

If you keep less than 5 full units in your newly conquered land, you are ASKING for a rebellion!

well, I did a save-load ( i think i merited it) and my daimyo became shogun. I only used him and he was at war for over 70 years... but he made it and ruled japan at the ripe old age of 94. i'd like to know how long he got to enjoy his position..

oh yeah.. this guy is a machine! he had children all the way until 89 or 90!!!
goddamn!

It think it is a feature because it happened to the AI once i murderd the hojo daimyo with a Ninja. Five of his provinces revolted.

Alastair, you are right (and i was wrong), it does not seem to be honor related. The Hojo Daimyo that i assasinated was minus 3Honor (breaking to many alliances i guess) and was replaced by his honor 4 heir.

My guess right now is:

1)Shinobi, border fort, garrison or lack off these have an impact (each province that "revolted" for the Hojo daimyo, i had ONE of my shinobi in)

COMBINED WITH

2)If you have been the daimyo of that province for a long time (in the guide they say up to 5 years, 20 turns, that can be a long time.)

Kuma --
Thank you for the confirmation that it DOES happen to the AI too! I have not yet seen it happen as any AI Daimyo gets whacked, but I've had ENORMOUS revolts (up to 30 provinces!) if I get careless and my own Daimyo gets it... even when the loyalty is 150% and up.

It must be one HUGE penalty somewhere deep in the algortihm.
