I can't believe this. The detail of units have gone worse in the x-pack. I thought I was seeing some hallucination or something, so I tried to play the origional one. The units in origional is more vivid and detailed! What has happened? I also saw that the naginatas in x-pack looks like a yari samuries. I miss origional naginata...

I know i'm going to burst into flames for saying this, but it would be the realization of my dreams for this game to make use of a 3D engine...

*ducks*

It is a 3d engine.. at least as 3d as it needs to be. I know it's only as 3d as the Doom engine and not as advanced as say Quake or whatever.. but that's all it needs. What use would the game have for being able to have two levels of terrain occupy the same column of space?? This would only be particularly useful if they were going to try and model castles more accurately. The engine already models the trajectories of projectiles in full 3d, what more does it really need??

Polygons for the units. I think that was the point of my man's gripe.

hmm.. for sprites as small as what we're talking about with Shogun, a non-polygon approach is probably going to be better. I don't have extensive experience with graphics design etc., but this would be my hunch.

As far as what yg is complaining about, I would have to disagree and say that in reality nothing has changed in the quality, and that the new NI graphics are probably more representative. Before they looked like dark-colored WM. Now they look more like YS, probably a more related unit type. I dunno, take your pick, not sure which is better.

thats just what we need http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

1000 polygons in one unit x say 100000.

Hopefully they speed up on the P8

LOL, it wouldn't be that difficult. There are games out there that push plenty of polygons... with a little bit of texture work, they could even look partly realistic...

(Sidebar: I knew it was a good idea to don that ol' asbestos suit http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif )

Seriously, though, the terrains look very nice as they are, but the unit textures and animations could probably stand to be touched up a bit.
