View Full Version : Stealing an ally\'s province without war

Hey guys, can anyone explain this?

I was Oda allied with Imagawa. Imagawa had taken Mino, but Uesugi invaded from Shinano and had Imagawa holed up inside the castle. The "province" was in Uesugi's hands but Imagawa still held the castle. As his ally, I invaded and routed off Uesugi's besieging army. But then it let me continue the siege (i.e., after I'd driven out Uesugi my troops stayed in the province while Imagawa's troops stayed in the castle and continued to die off) without switching our clan status to war. Is this a feature or an oversight?

I took the province and continued being Imagawa's ally.

It's hard to say, but it is nice to know. Thanks for the info.

I would say that it's a feature... you never pulled your troops out of the province...
imagine that you decided that you wanted to seize the territory while it was ripe, so to speak. That would be the perfect situation, no?

Yes, I wouldn't call it a "bug", just surprised the daimyo is so stupid as to let me kill an army and take a province while not changing our official status. But then again that happened a lot in Sengoku Jidai. Alliances were "conveniences" and formality. Neat.

In STW 1.12 this would mean inmediately WAR, and it was Ok so.

Exactly the same happened to me with the original STW (1.12) yesterday. I attacked Hojo in Shimotsuke, and killed their heirless daimyo during the battle. The rest of his armies reatreated to their castle and became ronin. I then starved them to death and was quite surprised that my status with rebels and ronins remained neutral.
Isn't it obvious that war is triggered only through invading a province that belongs to another daimyo? If an army is besieged by a third force the province already belongs to the besiegers.
I would, however, definitely call this a bug, because in programming terms, a certain exceptional situation is not properly dealt with! It's in the same line with the tax levels cheat.

Perhaps it's the added fact that the ally did not leave the castle and ur raiding party never gave em the time to get out and spread the news? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Ahhhhhh, that one is good. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

However, someone always survives so the word should get out and cause troubles.

Even if there were no survivors, I mean, does the Daimyo of the Imagawa clan ask his chief advisor 10 years later "Hey, whatever happened to that one army we had in Mino province? Haven't heard a peep from them in years!"

Oddly enough, I, like Ijontychi-san, have always caused a war when trying to liberate an ally's castle. Maybe it's just that you have more engaging personalities than we. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Or, something like: huh, I am missing the 1500 + koku from Owari for a few decades now. Guess people have been busy producing something other than rice. Sigh, peasants. Can't love them, can't do without them...

yeah, it would be really nice to coordinate with an ally in attacks..even sharing provinces. Unfortunately, that would be too tempting to just put guys in all his territories and then break the alliance. LOL!
