Ok my first opinions.
Hopefully many things can be patched or altered or at least more options added in game to suit the individuals preferences.

THE BAD

The speed of the AI moves on the strategy map.Far too fast now and actually hurt my eyes at first.found lowering the Gamma helped which i never had to do in STW.
(individual should have option to change)

Reinforcements are really bad.
Firstly my reinforcements have never appeared in any game i have played yet.
Secondly i hate the way the enemy reinforcements appear.I have had them coming from my end of a bridge battle?
Thirdly it's a mega pain on a timed battle trying to seek out all these reinforcements coming from all directions.
(individual should have option to change)

The campaign(i have only done sengoku) is far too easy apart from the reinforcements as above.
I think the lowering of prices and build times is really bad and needs addressed.Maybe it's quicker'but is that a good thing?I liked the satisfaction of STW knowing i had won a campaign through skill etc and hard fought battles and good management.now i can have monks'Geisha and citadels within a few years etc etc.

The Good

I like the ability to see ports on the stratety map and also press shift and see population loyalty. The way the interface can be activated on the main screen rather than having to leave the main screen. The way you see the buildings in provinces is all big improvements.
Also the way the rebels are named and get their own colours.(Big thumbs up to all above)

The new game types seem fun'but i have only tried KOTH.Seems a shame as every time i go in the lobby all i see is people hosting Last man standing.

The map editor seems good'but i need a dummys guide.

The new units are good too.

Anyway just a brief view.

The the Sengoku campaign seems easy is because the AI doesn't tech up like we human players do...

So after a few years we've got weapon and honour-enhanced troops and the AI still has a multitude of honourless troops without any upgrades...

What difficulty were you playing on though Hach?

Hard (^_^)
Thought i'd try that before expert.
My clan was the most advanced in Japan very quickly.

Try the more historical full campaigns, the AI seems to tech up in those..

I picked up playing Shogun again after a longish lay-off with the arrival of the XP. I have played 3 full campaigns on Expert (1530 - full campaign). I finished with Shimazu by 1575, Imagawa by 1566 and today with Takeda by 1556. I don't use any Geishas, and few ninja assassinations (one and two star generals only). I really enjoyed playing the game again and I think there are enough changes and tweaks in the XP to make it worthwhile IMHO.

A few things I noticed:

The game was over before there was time to build a lot of Citadels and high-tech units.

I didn't have to deal with any Hojo hordes which is great.

The AI makes better decisions about moving troops in response to your attacks and is quick to pounce on vacant provinces. In my last campaign (Takeda) at the end it was a big showdown with Shimazu (all others gone). The AI was making Monks, Naginata and Nag cav, SA, YS, YC, ND, HC and no YA. There were some tough battles!

The reinforcement problem can be offset by using Autoresolve in those battles where you know you have an edge.

The new unit types are cool. Especially Kensai and Nag Cav.

Game runs smooth as silk with DX8, latest NVidia drivers and Win98 SE.

I still don't think the AI is up to much against a human player. I am now down to competing by trying to better my last time to victory.

All said it was money well spent. If the campaign could be played against human opponents over a LAN it would be awesome.

Don't want to use autoresolve as theres no satisfaction.

Hach,Then how about bribing the second army to join you, that take cares of any reinforcements.
