After beginning a new Shogun, not warlord edition, campaign last night (will win with Shimazu normal yet!!)(and yes, that means I am only a casual gamer), after abandoning the WE campaign in disgust I thought, Why can't a college educated guy who has lived long enough to go bald figure out the simple fact that you should never ever buy an X-pack. The developers, who in this case produced a genius level game, the first time, always go on an ego trip and write strictly to the fanatics. Lurkers to this forum be warned, CA has NOT improved on the original.

Flame away, Total War toadies!

This is not strictly a flame BUT:

I REALLY don't think that anyone here is going to agree that the game developers wrote "to the fanatics". In fact, I think everyone around here has the exact opposite impression - that they wrote it for newbies.

"CA had not improved on the original"?

LOL, not true, IMO. But i guess that goes to show that not all college educated individuals (balding or no) feel the same way about video games. As long as the game is fun, it's worthwhile to me. I try not to take this stuff so seriously - not that there's anything wrong with doing so.

It's just that i rarely get so upset and disappointed about these things... i know people that can spend an entire weekend in front of their PCs playing games, pausing only to eat and use the toilet. They tend to get VERY upset when something in the game goes wrong, or when they pick up a game tht wasn't what they thought it'd be... Call it a short attention span, but i just can't do it.

I agree wholeheardedly. However, I don't think they created an xpack just for fanatics, but they also created one to weasel as much cash out of STW lovers. They knew damn well, that if they created a xpack, no matter how cruddy, every STW player would probably buy. Well, just to throw another marketing scam into it, they combine the STW and the XPack together, and charge 50$. Anyone find it a little sick that that is all that IS available to buy for the xpack? Waste of cash IMHO.

Agree with both Wyatt and Lord Aeon, to some extent.

Agree with Wyatt because usually the sequels and x-packs are, really for hard-cores. A typical way to take twice as much money from the customers. And when you stay perspective, you will see that most sequels and x-packs are not worth the money. Because you are only getting an old game wraped with new cover at the cost of a new game.

Of course, beauty is in the eyes of beholder. It all depends on how addicted you are to that game (not that there is anything wrong with it).

------------------------
Agree with Lord Aeon in that, hey, gaming is not everything in your life. People who play games are usually smart (hehe), but guess what, you also have school to attend to, you also have work to attend to, you also have gf/wf/kids to attend to. Playing game can release the pressure and keep you fresh if you can control it, but overdoing it only means less gym time with your pals, less beach time with the girls, reduced school/work performance, decling relationship with your family and friends.

So no need to get upset by a game feature. Live with it, or modify it, or play another game, or go out and enjoy the sun. Yes, the legend is right, there IS a sun.

---------------------------------

This seems a bit a**-kissing but Vanya, really like your humor.
