How can this be i thought it was supposed 2 be near realality! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gifDont get me wrong this guy is awesome, but really he can run as fast as HC LOL.U would of thought he would of been setup in a 60 unit for a more tactical use.Instead u can move him around the battle field with ease also. This is a totally mad unit if ive seen 1 http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

never saw the movie hidden "dragon crouching tiger"?
I think at least in short range charge, man can run faster than horse.
Historically, there were numerous records of heroes with super-human strength. I don't think all of them were fake.
Before the usage of advanced firearm, a highly trained, decently armed soldier (usually mounted though) could be unstoppable.
Consider this: give a gorilla a full sized plate armor, give him a katana forged by the best weapon smith, suppose he is as smart as we are, and you train him with martial art for 18 years. Can he take over a whole unit of no-dachi? I think so.
I know Kensai aren't really realistic, but aren't there stories of Samurai from the 16th Century who were larger than life, at least in story and legend? Miyamoto Musashi for example? I think it adds some flavour to the game, at least. And I certainly haven't found them to be completely unbalancing.
It's a little magic to add to the game. (8-)

The great thing about this expansion is that it can be all things to all people given the editable features. I agree about the speed factor for kensai as well as MHC. Convince enough people to edit down the speed and only play those individuals in MP...
PS, I remember reading the Miyamoto Musashi books; didnt the story start with him lying, left for dead, on the losing side at the battle of Sekigahara? His sword skills had little impact in a battle situation. The 'sword saint' was a folklore hero who excelled in small skirmishes and 1-to-1 duels as a lone traveller wandering the Edo period countryside...

While horse-like speed may be ridiculous, it isn't too outrageous to make the kensai one of the fastest foot soldiers in the game. A single man can run at whatever speed he wants, even at speeds that would be ridiculous for battle. A group of men, however, are usually trained to maintain a line and stay with their units as they have a bigger impact as a group. Hence, you're mass of sixty men will usually at the speed of the slowest member.
As someone who was initially leery of the kensai, I don't find him TOO upsetting in SP. Sure he can hold off groups of men for a time and outright seems nearly impervious to arrows (frankly, no matter how well you can dodge, IMHO is 60 archers draw a bead on you at 20-40 yards, at least one is going to hit you. Now, granted a lucky samurai in good armor can absorb a few arrows before anything important gets hit, but I've seen him survive several volleys from two units of 60 man archer squads.), but he's not invincible...and that's good. At his cost, you'll rarely make more than five or six in a campaign...if that(I tend to use them as heroes, leading no-dachi or other ground-pounder squads, sort of as the focal point of the shockwave troops...it's fun to watch the guys gain honor and watch them become famous).
If I remember correctly, Musashi was supposedly wounded at Sekigahara by gunfire (and, in even his own words, he was still far away from what people would eventually call a kensai at that stage in his life). I haven't seen if a Kensai can charge 60 musketeers firing at him...frankly, would be ridiculous if he can.
Think ill test that out!upgrade mus and see if he runs http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
