I have just got an ADSL line and now I can't host! The games are faster but I have to wait until a suitable one appears. I know that cable modems often have this problem to - how do you cope?

BTW I am aware some may thing this is one for Erado san - but I want the samurai on the michi's opinion.

Fair enough, but if people start posting technical help/fixes, I'll move it over. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Half the time I spend online is through a shared modem. Using MSofts internet sharing crap. This, for some stupid reason disables my ability to host. So I try to only play friendly games, as the connection is not as stable. Other things that stop hosting are firewall settings...

Just for Rob... Just ask anyone to host a game and tell them you can't host, it seems to work for me. Just watch out for the occasional wanker that throws up a castle, or bridge map hopeing for a quick honor bump...

Widda, quick question regarding your ICS. Are you the "server"? If so, E-mail me since I am NOT having problems!

Not being able to host is a substantial disadvantage. I am in that situation myself. You do end up waiting for games, and you're always playing on other people's terms (maps, koku, season, att/def). You have to be flexible. I choose low latency games to minimize losses due to drops. The biggest problem to me is tournaments. You couldn't have more than one non-hosting player in a tournament. I'm putting in some effort to find a solution for my particular situation which is different from yours.

Idaho: that's weird, I'm on ADSL AND behind a firewall at the same time and dare I say I'm one of the best hosts around...

One thing which might be helpful is to join a clan (if you haven't already) and fight in team battles hosted by your clan-mates.

Cheers all. Yeah Clan based (or at least team based endevours) might have to be the way. Unless my crappy ISP sort it out and update their firewall.

See Rob? It wasn't really a teccie question at all...
