I've been playing a campaign on expert as the Hojo, trying to stop the mongol invasion.
I've been coming up against some Korean spearmen as the generals for the mongol armies though. This shouldn't be,from a historical view point, let alone a tactical one.Korean auxillary troops as generals are very easy to beat due to their low morale.I think we should add this to our patch wish list,to fix this so that only the mongol cav units are generals.

Yes, totaly agree, the same can be said for all STW campaigns, when ashigaru become Taisho. Should not be allowed to happen.

How about Toyotomi Hideyoshi the ashigaru general?
Of course while playing STW, I prefer cavalry generals.
What if there is no cav on the field..

An interesting point Satake.I haven't seen that situation yet,but it is certainly possible. From what I've experienced with the mongol cav,if there is none present in the mongol army your facing, then you should make one helluva nice offering to Buddha http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gifMongol heavy cav are monsters to stop, and the light cav are so quick they're hard to catch.I just can't see the Kahn sending an army with no mongols in it,doesn't make sense, not that the Hojo would complain or anything http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I hate it when my heirs become Ashigaru, in fact I hate it full stop that I can't tell my son which unit to join. It shouldn't be restricted to a unit just built or anything. I'm the Daiymo and if I want my son to join my finest heavy cavalry division they will have him join them. Bah.

The only way is to regurlarly check your heirs age. When he gets to 16, only train one unit that season and your "son" will become taisho of that unit.

I do that. It works really well when you remember to empty all of your production queues http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif . Pet peeve.
By the way I prefer my heirs to be archers of some kind (SA or CA) they have the fewest casualties in my armies.

I always send my archers 2 battle first http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
I actually had a thunder bomber come up as a general (one star) and if memory serves me right there was a 'depleted' MHC in that army...
naturally the general blew himself to bits,
stress perhaps?
