I really like this, but of course it isn't the most cost-effective. It's just one of those ways to get around a long boring battle (yes, there are a few, especially if facing an all-archer army) simply by purchasing them away from their clan! It works particulary well with Ronin, which can be a big help if you play the early 1530 campaign - which is nearly all ronin and most clans start with one little province; you buy the enemy army and get their held province.

I use this feature a lot with Ronin when starting at 1530. Bribing another clan's army is VERY EXPENSIVE.

I also use bribing to take of multiple armies of ronin in a province, instead of facing the reinforcements in a battle.

If a taisho refuses, i usually murder him with a ninja, then offer the bribe to the new taisho who nearly always accept. I guess , it's the Kind of offer that can't be refused http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Obviously Kuma went to the Bill Gates school of business. Bribing is fun and does work best in the 1530 campaign. One thing I have been meaning to try is to use bribing the way shinobi are used to cause revolts behind the enemy front lines. Instead of sending 10-15 shinobi to a lightly held province bribe the general and have it fall into your hands.

Play Hojo against the horde - bribe horde armies - use them to crush the invaders....

yes, ive found buying off ronin armies is way less expensive, and that clan army costs arent very closely related to what they contain. a successful bribe for a clan army, for example, 7800 koku may buy a banner of ashi/archer combo, or a more exotic mix of cav, arhcers and monks.

EdRonin: Good idea, i will try that.

BSM: I wonder if we can bribe the horde? But a nice twisted idea though.

The costs are so high for the 1530 campaign because nearly all the armies are near the daimyo, and the cost increases as a function of the distance from the daimyo, so high costs.

KumaRatta,

You CAN bribe the horde. I posted on it some time ago, when folks first started saying they wanted to fight mongol vs. mongol. Try it sometime. Its not cheap, but it is bloody fun to play a horde vs horde battle.

it makes beating the horde very easy as i just save up loads of cash then bribe the biggest mongol army. . with that under ur bealt u beat anything!. . . yes ronin r easier to bribe and it is most effective in 1530 campain!

Watch out for that. . . . . Dam too late!. . . the story of my life!

so how much koku it cost then?

Well... I bribed a 1 unit army of YA... and it cost me 150. The gen was honor 0. So, it looks that at honor 0, the cost is 150% of cost of producing the unit. And, honor adds to the 'buy' price...

Of course, I could be wrong about this... but that is what I saw on one identifiable situation...
