View Full Version : 2B or not 2B
What does everyone else reckon about being christian or not? There have probably been billions of threads about this in the past but I've not been long on this forum idea so I haven't seen any.
Personally I don't like being christian. I LIKE my WM. I can't see what the advantage is as it says in the manual that WM have an advantage over christian armies. The only advantage I can find is that you get more koku as a tax or something from your christian followers, however by the time it's possible for me to become christian I have plenty of provinces churning out the cash and I don't need extra. Is there anyone who likes being christian?

Fight first, ask questions later.
You can still recuite WM while being christian.
Early guns can be great fun.
Added koku is essential while playing western clans on expert level in the original STW.
Well... let me give you my spin on this...
From the Jesuit perspective, heretics are damned to eternal strife in Hell. Buddhists, not being of the Faith, are therefore infidels, and thus, are already sentenced to Hell -- unless they convert to Christianity in order to reach salvation. Thus, being Buddhist has a long-term metaphysical impact on the moral and spiritual well-being of your warriors.
Buddhists on the other hand, simply strive to reach Nirvana by improving the fiber of their eternal being by resisting the material poisons and cravings that bring about suffering. Once perfected, their eternal being is granted permanent asylum in Nirvana. Until that time, however, the poor bastid is left to reincarnate as many times as necessary until such time that, through the correction of errors and crimes committed in the past, he heals his metaphysical wounds and perfects himself.
So... to summarize now for ya... As a Christian, you have ONE chance to get it right. But we all know that the fun is in the experimentation that can sometimes grant great pleasures or inflict great pains. Thus, the Buddhist lives the fun life, for he can come back as many times as he wants -- even as a rat or a cow!
Unfortunately, the 3rd option is not available: Islamic fundamentalist. These bastids would go straight to Heaven if they ran into the enemy clutching a boma! That is their belief! Simple, isn't it?
But, if you are elitist, then go Christian, for you will go to Heaven and the rest will become the dirt upon which you walk.
Did I answer your question? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I just learned that cow can be male a couple of months ago.
LOL@Vanya!!
But really, I dunno, I personally think Christianity is bunk simply because of the massive civil unrest you are asking for, especially when conquering.
And you can likely produce Monks, but any province with a temple is going to be markedly less loyal, *especially* if recently conquered.
So wait for the Dutch. Use your easy WM and ability to conquer without massive revolt as an advantage until then. Arquebusiers are essentially worthless anyway. And by the time you've got a Cathedral for Muskets, the Dutch will almost have arrived anyway (I would imagine, tho I can't say I've tried it).
But just my opinion.. also guns can be especially irrelevant because they don't fire up or down hills, into woods, and will be useless anyway along with arrows if your enemy has gold armor. But archers can at least fight worth a damn.
Anyway..
Matt
I have to agree with Khan7; I went Christian once as Shimazu but guns from the portugese are shit and the unrest is hell.
I have never made it to the Dutch yet unless I am mucking around with the Rebels and it is not worth the effort.
I think the on-line players who play on a flat surface prefer a mixture of guns but I am no expert on that - or anything else.
