Please can someone help me with how to assign armies to an eligible heir - game says to build an army and the heir will automatically assign but I've tried this and it does not help

You got to make sure your heir is old enough to be a general. All heirs mature at 16.

I think that you cannot actually assign the heir until he has turned 17. I thnk that it warns you when he turns 16.

You shall check that the heir is listed as "unassigned" in the heirs screen.

You shall build a unit, and unless the game decides to assign another general in that unit instead, the heir will be assigned to that unit. If he is not, build new units until the heir is assigned. For all practical purposes, three tries should do it.

And you shall make sure the unit is not Yari Ashigaru. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Remeber that heirs are assigned only to newly manufactured units. Plus a heir will be assigned to the western-most new unit, so make sure its a half decent type.

Once he's got a unit of his own, drop any other army token onto his token (the little chess-piece-icon on the main map) and that army will join the heir. The only time he won't become the new taisho of that army, is when that army already has a better general.
