How best 2 control ur units as one force?
Useing group keys...etc
Or is it just best 2 click, click, click all the time????
My problem is i tend 2 forget where all my units are.. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif
Need 2 move them like a army and place them when and where i like http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
There are a few different methods in controlling units as one and 2 control each unit as single....
Just wondered which are the most effective ways in battle and so on....
Well CAV i suppose this are a different story all together....
Hope u guys can help;p

I only click click click if up against someone good, other times im lazy but group guns to key 1 yari sam to key 2 archers to key 3, left shock troops to key 4 and right shock troops to key 5, mostly i use the drag ability for movement then press ctrl-r twice to make them march v quick, If up against a good opponent i tend not to group whole army as 1, its far too clumsy but can be used in conjunction with the number groupings ok

I tend to have 3 lines of troops, and group and move them as lines: ranged out front, defensive line second and shock troops behind. Cav on the flanks is controlled unit by unit. If I am rushed, I can quickly redraw my ranged line behind my defensive line. Once the units melee, the shock troops are individually controlled. If the terrain is hilly or patched with trees, I will use smaller groupings to control certain important places on the battlefield.

Gah! Krast uses careful assignments of number-key groupings.

Usually grouping guns in pairs, melee in two or three ... depending on the army.

And the numbers range out from the center of the board, with the 5 key controlling the center of the line and from there left and right.

The 0 (ten) key is Krast's Taisho ... but beware! The [ctrl-o] and [ctrl-0] keys are very close togther and look the same ... re-program the rout function from [ctrl-o] to something else where your finigulars won't hit it by accident.

i dont key group at all, but rather use pause (note: i dont multiplay except in small koku games where the max units is maybe 4)

I use all 9 groupings too krast, I just use the basic groupings if i know im not in for too much trouble. would be nice to see more groupings available i have an army i cn split into a perfect 2 and move them off independantly but its too little group keys to do it well

I use exactly what Yuuki pointed out.
Missiles on front, defensive line and then shock troops.

Troop movements can be hard at times, especially when you got to kinda move 'sideways' with your groups.

I have a cunning plan!

I have my units layered as per usual i.e. ranged, defensive then shock. But I have them in order from left to right as they appear on the tabs at the bottom. This makes it easy when trying to flank etc. and if the enemy is in a wide line you don't start crossing your fire.

To move sideways:

Selecting your men according to their place on their unit cards, group them and drag a line.

When you need to move sideways without messing, just select the group and drag the units where ya want...
