Just discovered one funny thing - you might have known this for a long time, just in case anyone would get benefit from it:

I just assaulted a bridge under heavy fog. It was a rather small battle, 230 vs. 220 or so. AI had a group of 22 monks and 120 cavalry, while I had only archers and YS.

In heavy fog, their troops were located very close to the bridge. I set up my archers far away, ordering them to fire at the monks.

So they approached till the monks were in their range, and released their arrows.

The monks didn't move! They probably cannot figure out where the arrows come from under the fog. 22 of them - all dead! Same fate was almost one entire group of CA. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I love fog - the only problem I have is GETTING it when I need it. What season does it seem to be most prevalent in? Spring?
Qapla and Thanks!

The battle I fought was winter. I guess heavy fog appears more in winter (?), depending on when the rain season is in Japan http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Ok can anyone tell me the ups and downs of the different seasons? Good harvest, fog, rain, snow, typhoon, plague etc... Anything and everything you guys observe during different seasons of the game.

I only know the usual pattern of choosing the weather (not always true though).

Say we are presented with weather X1. If we choose wait, then we will get X2, X3, X4, then finally X1 again. If we do not want this X1 then we have to retreat.

the X's can be:

Light rain -> Rain with bright patches -> rain expected -> heavy rain -> Light rain

Light snow -> Snow -> Snow shower -> Heavy snow -> light snow

Light fog -> fog expected -> fog all day -> heavy fog -> light fog

So by seeing the first one, we can have an idea of what the possible choices are. For fine weather, there is usually a high chance of repeating (along with occasional light wind).

Well that was the AI. This won't be of any help in multiplayer games.

Maltz,
You were not supposed to tell that one http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
I have wiped out three units once by just sitting there and going from one unit to another. Even better than heavy rain against the AI. Would not want to try it against a human though.
