Well, as I have been playing more and more, I am beginning to have a number of Generals running around at rank 5 and 6. These guys are the BOMB. However, I have not been able to get any generals higher than rank 6. Is this the top end for them, or has anyone gottem then higher?

If you get a net 64 wins, you should be able to get rank 7, theoretically. Then if you get 128 wins, you will become rank 8, supposedly getting a good H4+ bonus. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah, your rank = 1+ log2(Net wins).

Meaning:
64 net wins, your rank = 1 + log2(64) = 7.

Now why is anyone masochistic enough to raise their general(s) beyond rank 6? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif After all, you need him to be rank 8 to really see any diffrence from rank 6.

While playing as Imagawa in STW (still haven't got WE/MI), I managed to get Tokugawa Ieyasu up to rank 8. It required 128 victories without suffering a single defeat.

It's just for the coolness factor, mostly.
When he was promoted, it stated that his knowledge matched that of Sun Tzu himself and that he was practically invincible. Besides, the honour bonus is 4+.

This has been discussed previously on this forum, although it was a while ago.

How about the lowest?

The lowest I've fought was an H-7. Needless to say the battle was extremely short. It must be quite hard to get H-7, unless you just rout as soon as the battle starts I suppose.

Really?!?!

You actually mean negative 7???? To get that, don't you need 64 defeats?

As far as I know, the general will commit seppuku as soon as he gets too many defeats under his belt (I once tried one for fun, and he committed sepukku right after he reaches rank -3, that is , 4 defeats)

I have seen Oda get negative 3 or 4 before when continually attacking the ronins. Interesting to just watch and wait while he whittles them down for you.
Once there was a negative Shimazu in a game I played - negative 3 as well I remember(?).

I have answered my own question - with a bit of "cheating" along with it.

I took a running game, and modified the number of wins my general (and heir) had - He was rank 6 (with 35 wins) at the start. I bumped him up to 64 - and checked - yup he was Rank 7 - but no change in the text. Back out and shoot him up to 128 wins - go back and he is Rank 8 - BUT the text still is the same - but shows the # of wins and the new rank - so guess what - according to the text my guys only still get +3 honor (only???LOL)
Looking at the units though - they actually have +4 honor - so it works. I kicked the wins up to 256 and my wonderful general is now back at rank 0 - which means the buffer is 255. At 255 wins (and 0 losses) the text is the same for a rank 6 general - I have ingame snapshots if anyone wants them - just let me know and I will icq or email em to ya - you can see that they were all taken on the same game "turn" etc...

Qapla!

BSM_Skkzarg, are you playing STW or WE/MI?

In STW, when you reach rank 8 fighting your way up, although the text is the same for a rank 6 general, the honour bonus says +4. The text that changed when I got Tokugawa Ieyasu (heir of Imagawa) up to rank 8 was the text that shows up when he was promoted to that rank and stated that his knowledge matched Sun Tzu's.

Have you seen this or did you "cheat" your way up to rank 8 (i.e. editing)?

It is true, negative 7. I'm surprised aswell and I can't prove it with screen shots etc. which I'm sure you'd like as proof but.... I know it was.
