battlefield Ninja - best arrowless castle assault

Just discovered another thing, but still might have known this:

Battlefield ninja is very good at assaulting castle with no arrows due to their abundant arrow suppply. Under the new rule, archers might as well kill them all, but one group of battle ninja standing just in front of the gate is well capable of eliminating hundreds of arrowless enemy.

Last night my 9 ninja killed a total of 160 in front of me, just like a targeting practice. The targets even automatically moves forward when the front ones depleted http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

We don't have to wait till late game to get battlefield ninja. In the new 1530 scneraio, there is one group in Iga. It costs only about 2700 koku to buy the whole team off http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Yeah I discovered the same thing. It's really a shame that the AI just stands there and won't retaliate though. Hell, it even sends the next line up for slaughter as soon as the first is wiped out. That would be a nice patch fix wouldn't it? The same thing happens to troops in the field that are recieving missle fire. You'd think they'd at least move away.

Sometimes I think the AI deliberatly lets weak units in the field be easy missle targets so that by the time his good units roll up he has little to fear from your archers.

We can really lure the castle defenders out though. What you can do is, move your daimyo (or some cheap, but high honored unit) to the gate and let him and his bodyguard engage with the group there. Then pull them back. The enemy will be lured out of the castle, welcomed by our soldiers waiting on the two sides... :P

Or load up gunners and watch them die in formation.

But for best result, you do have to turn the timer OFF and set up the game speed to maximum. Instead of letting your archers to shoot all at once, deploy your unit as close to the gate as possible, ONE AT A TIME ...

Once I had a unit of 59 muskets that killed 240 ...

I know there is definitely no honor in doing this, sometimes it even feels like cheating.

I have been using the BN in castle assaults for a while. the only thing to worry about is not sending them on to the battle field alone. They become the General and get a nice white blob. The AI will come out and attack you then.

You can use them against archer units in the castle and the losses are very low as there defence is so high.

A truly amazing unit. The only problem is having a seperate province just producing them as they take four turns to produce.

Yeah, and those buggers get honor out the yin-yang every time they fight practically. BFN and Kensai are the only ones I've noticed that accumulate honor so quickly. It's kind of a bummer that in the castle assault, the units just stand there and die. Whats worse is the next unit stepping up for slaughter after the last!

I like to take out their archers with my own archers then storm the castle with Kensi and BN. Set them to hand to hand combat and they're lethal http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif It also saves the problem of just sitting back and watching arrows fly, it gives you a bit of action at the end. It's also amusing to watch at full speed with your unit of BN slautering one group of units then sprinting on to the next lot http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

How do you get Battle Field Ninjas?

This is only in MI and you need (in one province) An infamous Ninja house a sword dojo and a citadel to build a BN dojo. Worth it though http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Alas, they take so long to train...raise them in a province by themselves otherwise you might be starved for other troops...

I think you only need a fortress to get the infamous ninja house and the legendary swordsman event to get the sword dojo. And yes I usually set up a separate province just for producing them as they take so long to produce.
