In our clan, our men lead us to battle.

This is very funny...
The phrase with every woman behind every man...lol
It should be in the right way : behind every city wall, there are more then one woman...in case of siege...be sure to let them lose on the enemy...they will make him leave shopping, or broke in the worst case...lol

Welcome to our little community. We've (veterans) gone through 3 such communities (STW, MI, MTW) and are looking forward to seeing your clan lead the way into the new game. We've already spoken briefly you and I and as it stands, you can always look to us for support.

So mr.Simurgh, be seeing you online http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
I remember seeing some FFs in Soldier of Fortune 2 MP.
I do not see any SOF2 section on the webn-site though. Could anyone confirm if FF does play SOF2 ?
Thanks. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif
That game is not an official independant division of FF, nor is it being set up on the moment AFAIK...
That does not mean some of us dont play it... Could be simply just FF'rs who got already a callsign on that server from other games and arent bothered to make new ones... Or perhaps it is indeed being scouted out if its suitable to expand to.... maybe they are just a different clan...
Would have helped lots of you had asked them what their FF stood for.... or if you posted their names http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Thank you Tempiic.
I do not remember their names, but when asked what FF stands for, they disclosed ---> "Freedom Fighters".
They played well, and were very friendly.
I'll possibly run into them again.
Will let you know if I have any further details.

Simurgh... reminds me of Firdausi's tales... back in the days...
Er..anyway. Nothing of relevance. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
As an Oriental, I am always very impressed by Westerners who know more than just their own culture.
The Shahnameh of Firdausi, is a revered classic for the Orient. Firdausi, Omar Khayyam, Sa'di were some of my favorites in college. I love their work, it's an aspiration of what we wish to be, of what we hope we are.
"Though Death may take me in his cruel clutch
My verse will give men joy -
It is a monument Time cannot touch
Nor wind nor rain destroy."
--Firdausi--
Louis de la Ferte Ste Colombe
05-21-2003, 14:35
Well, actually, it is of some relevance.
Many FF in MTW choose callsign related to mythical animals (Tempiic, Manticore, Gryphon, Phoenix, Unicorn...).
As I like to play Oriental factions, I thought about oriental tales as a source of inspiration...
Unfortunately I have not read Firdausi yet (it's on my list)... But the Simurgh made it to western culture throught Flaubert and Borges and that made the connection for me... See link in my sig...
Louis, the Simurgh
Edit; from FF fighters (doh) to FF in MTW...
I read that page in your sig, first time I saw it.
Here is a simple, Persian definition:
Symurgh, Semurgh: the fabulous griffin in Attar's Bird-Parliament symbolizing the Spirit of God; in Firdausi's Shahnama the foster-father and teacher of Zál.
From a website (you may know already). It's one of my favorites on Rumi:
Khamush (http://www.khamush.com/)
Urghhhhhh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
No not really, my name has nothing to do with mythical animals (though the name on itself may have some mythical values, depending on the game you are playing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
Hmmm the only one outside of FF MTW who has a mythical based name would be Cerniic... where cern stands for Cernunnos (or whatever it is spelled)... Hmmm there's the Myth callsign as well. And I think Fetty is close becoming the mythical animal on our forums http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But besides these, few mythical animal names are used

Sinan,
The page on the sig is part of a literary bestiary project inspired by Borges (Borjes). It is not dedicated to a specific culture... I just put it as an introduction, and I was looking for a page with an illustration.. The site you put is much more complete and informative... Thanks for posting it.
The part I like about the Simurgh is the 30 birds looking for the Simurgh and changing into the Simurgh in the process.
Oh god we need a literary forum somewhere.
Louis the Simurgh,
Oh sinan... the next time you see them again, please say heya to them from tempy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif It may or may not ring a bell, depending how long they are part of us http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Louis, http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif yeah I like that as well. I interpret slightly more abstract. More as, they were trying to find themselves, and did as they became the Semurgh.
Yes, we do need a literary forum, there is a yahoo group on Sufi Islam, Rumi, Firdausi. You can find it by browsing the groups on yahoo, or through Khamush.com ....btw khamush IIRC means silence in Persian.
Tempiic I will give them a shout out from you if, and when, I'm a fraggin away, with them again. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

A long overdue update. Our website has been changed into ffighters.co.uk (rather than .com) some time ago. With the sole exception of Jack Russel, and the recent casual gaming of Annie and me now and then, our TW wing is quite inactive ever since the pre-expansion RTW patch.

Indeed, it's nice to see the FF's back in action! :2thumbsup:
Sadly we are not alone in our absence. A good week night would have about 30 people max, usually 20 or less and we all played different versions: v1.1, v2.01, mod Napoleon, mod Reconq., etc. So we usually end up waiting or left out by the dreaded odd-man-out situation.
"we have 8, let's play 4x4"
"Eh, we have 9 now"
"What's the problem, 4x4 should still be good"
"but the <so and so clan> has 4 people, they want to play together"
"oh, ok"
Then people shuffles a bit, people departed from game, etc.
"Hmmm, we have 7 now"
"what, it was 9 just a minute ago"
"well, <so and so in that clan> departed after seeing there are not many seats and they want to let us play"
"let me call back my mates. They are coming"
"We have 10 now"
"That should be good, let's play a 2x2 and a 3x3"
"Ok, everybody out, restart"
"Where are the people now? We have only 5"
"They wasted 20 minutes without a game, so they went away doing something else"
...
Yeah, there are certain night I don't play any game :)
Could people just stay a bit longer instead of pop in and out? :)

I read in Don-Clan forum form Rage that the tourny was cancelled. Perhaps it only was not known. So why not posting a new topic with a headline, so others are able to see it more easily ? Or post it on other clan-websides.
I hope one day the Dons will change to VI ;-)) You should join our VI-revival-sessions: see this thead:

And: please lets all decide for one version/mod. It is bad that we are splitted to MTW and VI and NTW and so on.

judging by goodspeed's sig, switching to VI is doubtful.

I think we will have to move to VI, because it's to hard trying to get people on MTW in the first place, and in my opinion, we all need to switch to VI, no matter what, just so we can be unifted and have more fun, not be divided between the "MTW" clans and players, and the "VI" clans and players.

lol...
u should all move to MTW actually.
(i dont have VI:embarassed:)
anyways 1v1 tournament started now we still have 21 participants :D
5 cav max rule so no mass swiping. involves tactic, just like in VI.
[FF]Jade (myself) and [FF]Tempiic played a few Samurai Warlords games. Needless to say we feel our armors rusty and our swords dull. But it was a fun outing, enough to say we shall be back some Sundays 8PM GMT.
