Hi guys.
Been playing MTW for a little while now, using the English.
The very first thing I did was to buy off the Welsh rebels so I could nab their Longbows, and to develop the region with a view to producing my own Longbow units.
30 years later, after finally producing a Bowyer's Guild, I dont seem to have the ability to produce Longbowmen. Same deal with trying to make Billmen in Mercia...
Am I missing something?
The tech chart says that for Longbowmen I need a Bowyer's Guild and for the Billmen I need a Spearmaker's Guild, and I have these. Is there some certain year or building requirement that I've overlooked here?

Thanks

Hello Chavez

YOu can only produce Longbowmen & Billmen in the High era. You can still produce the buildings required to produce them but you won't be able to train those units as they are restricted to the high era, which is around 1200 i think.

Good Luck

Hi
Shouldn't be posting too much, I prefer to find tactics and stuff for myself. But I want my Longbowmen

Don't take it as a negative in the game. What I do is build enough buildings so that as soon as the next age hits I can immediately start building the respective units. Take it as preparation time, an essential to any successful campaign. Bribing the Welsh is a good idea since you get those Longbows in an age where there is no real equivalent, only you have to protect them well so the last the time to the high period.

In my current Egypt campaign I have almost hit the Late era, but I alreay have Master Foundries and Master Gunsmiths, so once the age hits, I'll be churning out those Serpentines, Mortars, Arqubusiers, Booms, Canons far before anyone else. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Hi Pussy Chavez, folks,

I encountered the same feature in my first English campaign until (after some persual here) I wondered if it was an era thing. Sure 'nuff...

The only place I've actually found this documented, though (along with a bunch of similar useful stuff), is in Clan Berserk's Units Master tool (from Clan Berserk's MTW page (http://shogun.cafe24.com/medieval/)) - a fantastic tool, highly recommended

The MTW manual is kinda small for such a big game...

Cheers,

Actually, if you want longbows that badly (and who doesn't? they're so fun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) you can get MedMod for VI. Wes modded it so that english get longbows in early, though I think billmen still come in high... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Ah I've been wondering why I couldn't build certain units even when I had the buildings. For a while I thought my game was broken or something. They should really warn you about these things...
