Hi all,

This is a post started back at the The TotalWar.com forums (http://pub24.ezboard.com/fshoguntotalwarfrm7.showMessageRange?topicID=127.topic&start=61&stop=80). I have improved three tools to help with the development of units, buildings in a unified way and developed a tool for the creation of the Era files.King David has posted the initial files in The Dangeon for the Patritian thread.

The ones in th einitial post had a number of bugs that came from the grabing of files that were under development in the monent. Any way here are the files.

The unit tool (http://users.otenet.gr/~timoleon/unit-tool.zip)

The campaign tool (http://users.otenet.gr/~timoleon/campaintool.zip)

The last generates the official Early Era but with the burgundians in the game and all exept the Pope as major.

I have tried to incert more but what I get is an empty map http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif If any one can fined the problem pease help

The equivalent files for the Patritian are next http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

A GREEK welcome to the org fold of Hellenes, komninos http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif our exalted ranks include myself, Rosacrux and Rasoforos. let it be known that if you are an Olympiakos fan only Rosacrux will be allowed to talk to you. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif but seriously welcome to the org, its a great place to be.

Hi,

Nice to find other Hellenes around isn't it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif Also any serious person that has spent some time abroad is definitely not an Olimpiacos fan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif .

Last night I made a brake though... I have finally figured out the coordinate files for the shields and did some excellent shields for all four my Hoplites (Ificratian, Spartan, and Sariza). I have built a tool to help calculate them but that is to be tested. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Kominos,

I wrote a quick utility for 'flip' - specifically for amending shield positions for the units in the Patrician mod.

It was never released as a general utility because I can neither upload nor download from the 3downloads currently being utilised by The Org.

If you want the latest version of this utility (which offers far more that the versionI E-Mailed 'flip&#39http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif then let me know and I'll E-mail it to you. It contains the necessary routines/maths/algorithms required to amend MTW shield positions. Obviously you can utilise this code (if you wish) for your own utility.

regards,
Welly

Thanks,

You can send it timoleon@otenet.gr if you wont I can upload it to my web space there.

Do you have exactly the function of the values in the shield and weapon files? I am making an Exel file that will calculate many things automatically

I am nearly ready to make the unit-tool-patr to ver-1.2 this will aplay to the Patrician mod. It will come in two versions an lg and a sm. There difference is that lg will use 200 men units (read Extreme Unit Sizes) while sm at 100.

I am trying to find a way to built the ship stats in a meaningful way. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do it? If you have downloaded the tool for the WTM you can see how I calculate it there BUT I am not happy with it plus many things change in this Era.

To all that have downloaded the Campaigne tool. I has a bug and the result is an empty map
The problem is in the calculation of the age of Heirs
You don't have to download a new version BUT go to the Leaders sheet and make the function =1+INT(13*(1-RAND()))

Thanks

hello there,

thanks for the tools Is there any way that you can come up with a decent flag and colors for the Byzantines so as to rectify this pathetic purple that makes no historical sense whatsoever?

I am talking about the Golden Double-Headed Eagle on DARK RED, the Byzantine military flag that we all know. Thanks in advance.

Greetings to my fellow Hellenes http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i am not much into moding but efstratios has a point. How about a 'Buzantium Restored' mod with 1)proper colours 2)proper names 3)better 'themata' distribution 4)proper units ( i think people have done this allready) ?

Well, yes and no,

If you get the unit-tool I have rectified this. You need to turn the Byz-inf into a spear / good unit, give the kataphrakts a shield and reduce them to barded. I have also made a staff slinger unit for my self which are excellent missile and turn the tepezund arch in to a good, foot_meel unit.

As for the flag ... I think I would get the Novgorode and turn the cyan part in to porfira (dark red) thing is ... with the en touto nika thing you have to have a cross either over or in the flag ... this puzzles me ...

Komninos,

Does this unit tool contain instructions for how to Mod units? I'm a newbie to the game and this board, so I had some questions about how to do the mods.

Thanks

ps Wasn't able to extract the files yet, that's why I'm asking...

Not many ... but is self explanatory ... you 'll see. The main thing is DON'T TUCH THINGS WITH FUNCTIONS IN THEM http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Your main work will be done in the Unit Def, Attributes, and Ships.
In the crusaders_unit_prod11 you can change some stuff but don't unless you know what you are doing.
With it and folowing the example of ready made new unit you can also add units to the game. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Remember after you save the crusaders_unit_prod11 sheet as a tab delimited text file to enter the crusaders_unit_prod11.txt and replace the with . This goes for all of my tools.

YES http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif the VI is out and I got it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So I made the tools again for the VI the general info is in the TXT file included in the Exel files. But here it goes again for all of you.

The link to get them till they go to the main download section is:
VI_ORG_unit_Tools.zip (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Mtw_Uploads/MTWupload/VI_ORG_unit_Tools.zip)

And some more things I forgot
Now there is a number of new sections that control who gets the unit, and its attributes. Simply peak the ones you like to have http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

=============================

These are a modified and enhanced version of the production unit files from CA.

Special info.
1. These files contain a number of similar units. These units should be the same in both files for the game to work if an extra unit exists in one of them that does not exist in the other then there is no problem (this was proven after a number of crushes I had :-) )

2. The files were modified since the result from the original file did not work for me (the quotes were one of the things that was omitted). The other reason is that they contain a number of improvements that were developed on the original MTW production files that make our life as moders much easier.

3. These files produce the original production files with minor changes

4. After you make your changes save the first sheet as a tab delimited .txt file. Then open the resulting file with a word pad and replace all with and save again.

Changes to the original production files
1.Weapon factors.
Small value changes like the addition of a defense point on the sword units since the sword though it is an attack weapon it gives adequate defense. Spears have 1 attack and 1 defense they are a very balanced weapon. Other changes include the equation of the foot sword with the CAV_SWORD values, and the addition of a number of spear types that some of us need for other periods so you get SM_SPEAR, LONG_SPEAR and in the future a SARIZA will be included for the Alexandrian and Hellenistic units.
2.Shield factors
New shield types were added though not passed in the tables yet You get LT_LARG, HVY_LARGE and SM_CAV. LT_LARGE represents large shields made out of skins like the prehistoric ones or the ones used by the Persians and the Savanna African tribes. HVY_LARGE are the large armored shields used by the Romans, Greeks and the later western shields. SM_CAV is a small shield for cavalry.
3.Charge factors
I hate the fact that SHOCK is at troop types Shock troops are disciplined troops that attack in a wall manner (Greek Hoplites). The way they fight after the initial crush has nothing to do with how they attack. The SHOCK troop type should be changed to Interdependent where one man protects the man beside him (hmmm to implement it later of the Hoplites) The FOOT_SHOCK and CAV_SHOCK are inserted here to give extra charge punch to these units practically all Heavy cavalry with lances falls in to the CAV_SHOCK category. I am not sure if in these age there were any true FOOT_SHOCK units.
4.Movement factors
They have been equalized for various FOOT and CAV. All men run more or less the same. The speed factors now take the value of the Movement penalty depending on their weapons and armor.
5. Ship tables
I have not used them on this version but you can get an opinion on how the values would come up.

Hi all,

Apparently there is a calculation error for the unit speed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif . I have fixed it and re-uploaded the files under VI_ORG_unit_Tools-new.zip http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif For the guys supporting the site and to all of you sorry for the inconvenience http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Hi all,

as promised the tool to produce the Startpose files for the VI is ready http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif You can do all you need to do to the Startpos files from it nicely and easy and most of all fail safe ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif most of the times

Campaign-tool-VI.zip (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Mtw_Uploads/MTWupload/Campaign-tool-VI.zip)

A minor detail the Crusader_unit_11.xls file has a minor bug that can cause problems to fix it go to the ships and delete the MUSLIM at the Religion the ship types belong to

Any comment post them to this thread

HI Komninos I just dl your startpos editor I have not tried to use it yet I must say as a modder myself if you supply some documentation with your tools it would be very helpful, it seems simpler to just edit the startpos as is , I guess I have been doing it like that for so long thats what I am used to so I need something more to sell me on your utility.I appreciate your efforts keep it up you are an asset to the community. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hi LoS,

I think I suffer from the “programmers syndrome” after you spend ~48 hours to built it ~24hours to debug it and ~12hours to update it to VI standards its kind of hard to sit down and write a couple of words about it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

You are absolutely write about it though

Basically
YOU DON’T EDIT THE FIRST SHEET UNLESS YOU INSET LINES TO OTHERS
With that said you simply need to go sheet by sheet and fill in the info I have made it so that you can add some staff with out the need of fixing the first sheet.
It is strait forward tool so if you have an hour with it you will figure every thing out. Let me put it this way as it is you can bring any period in about 1 to 3 hours depending on the detail level you would like to have.

A word for the wise
If you mod units be sure to pass any changes in the Units sheet and reflect them Otherwise you will get errors in the “Units in regions” sheet.

OK. That’s it for now ... I will write a manual for it when I get home along with a set of “how to’s”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An update ...
A minor bug was found yet again in the units tool. To fix it go to the “Belongs to” and “leader of” sheets and change the names of the factions to “FN_*” i.e. BYZANTINE to FN_BYZANTINE. The bug trashes for the old version of the tool since this is the way to original MTW needed the info http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif.
