View Full Version : Will you get the Vikings?

We might have enough info to decide already, but in the light of half-cooked releases lately, a lot of people might not rush to the store to buy the expansion the day it comes out. For example, I was waiting for Play the World for Civ3, Freelancer and Master of Orion III, but all of them turned out to look good only on paper and in previews, not on your computer. So I passed on all of them. However, I would like to know what are your plans for the MTW Vikings pack.

Sorry if you guys are sick of polls already http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

I will also wait for reviews.
I would buy it wihtout much thinking if Lithuanian faction was playable, or at least easily moddable into playable.
But it took me quite a while to mod MTW to make Lithuania playable, so I don't really want to do it all over again.

Unless some major improvements to gameplay have been made...

I'm sure to buy it.
I remember how people reacted here when it was MI, they were outraged and raved all day about it, while I on the other hand found it very good. Sure the Mongols themselves were not great but the rest most certainly was.

lol, just kiddin there, but to the non-believers out there I highly doubt that VI will be a flop, when has CA developed a rep for releasing half-baked games? Personally I think VI will have more of a shogun feel to it (One Island).......

but I guess time, like always, will tell... sooner or later, time will tell... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

I'll buy it on the first day and be very excited. I'll install it right away, read the manual until I can have a few hours to play. After two days of playing the game, reality will take hold and will return to the Org and spend the next months answering polls about the game I no longer have time to play thanks to the polls. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I'm sure I'll get the expansion, but will find out more about it first. Like for instance, will you have to have it to play online (which, just like MI/WE I'm sure you will for the most current edition). Also, if CA decides to murder all their current staff and hire incompetent ninnies who program nothing but rubbish, and I find out about this, I will not buy the expansion. So it really depends on the situation.

Reputation counts for something. Having played STW, MI and MTW I now have such confidence in CA that I will buy VI without checking any reviews or listening to the whining we'll no doubt here on these boards because VI didn't include Apache attack helicopters and whatnot.

03-20-2003, 10:14
I will probably buy it fairly quick, not because i think it will be great or anything (in fact i dont feel any excitement at all for the exp pack) but just because most peeps will play it online and if you dont have it, the games wont be compatible.

I dont see many new features in it at all, new units bleh no new diplomacty options, no ai fixes, THEY fixed GA's should have been fixed anyway £30 for a patch and a new single player campaign.

Swoosh So
03-20-2003, 10:25
In fact im kind of dreading the exp pack as im just coming back to multi player and after what the last expansion did to multi player. I was just thinking things were getting a fraction of the way back how they used to be.

Watch out for those high honor clansmen with upgrades

It's wierd thinking as Scotland as a major faction. I find it odd thinking of it as a country, and not a group of nostalgic skirt wearing drunks up a desolate mountain. Has Scotland ever been united except in the sense of its utter hatred of the English - when England leaves them alone they just get drunk and kill each other...
Personally, I'm not going to buy the addon. I'll save the monty to get a new graphics card when the Roman one comes out.

The Battle of Stirling ended in victory for the Scots, and they exacted bloody revenge on the English. Cressingham, an arrogant and militant priest, who was also the English Treasurer, was torn to pieces and skinned. It is said Wallace made a belt from the skin. The army commander, Surrey, ran away and did not stop until he reached the safety of Berwick Castle. He lost 20,000 men - their bodies piled up below Abbey Craig.

i chose i'll wait for the price drop, but it really depends on what it does to mp. if i can't play the usual suspects in mp games cause of upgrades and the like, i'll probably buy it the next day. that'll be the deciding factor for me. my understanding is every mp player has to have the same version to play.

as for the sp i'm really interested, but can wait for a used copy to appear for sale... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

No need for disappointment... you obviously haven't seen the latest screenshots from the game.

A Viking Longbow, carrying the fierce raiders that plagued pre-medieval Europe.

Here we see one of the warriors in action, as the Vikings launch their attack

But be prepared for hot debate... from the sound of things, it would seem the Thor's Targeting system's accuracy is undermodeled. Also they will not be including the Loki Arrow Guidance Jamming System, which was essential to Viking tactics vs. opponents with AAA (Anti Apache Arrows)

On Rory's comment.

Did you realise that if it want for Scotland and there people that we wouldnt be the strong Britain we ae these days. Not only have scottish soldiers died with our own english brothers over the years in the great wars that have come onto our united kingdom but they have also lead our country at the highest level. E.g Our own prime minister Tony Blair and second in command Gordon Brown. Im grateful for our scottish friends that have worked and helped build our great country. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Great screenshots. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I guess they won't have anything to whine about now.

On a side note, these are Apaches but not Apache Longbows. The Longbow is the radar which sits on the top of the main rotor, but not all Apaches are equipped with one.

Then maybe the whiners will have something to whine about after all.

not sure of naming (longbow), but initially, (not sure if it has since changed) all AH-64s were upgraded to AH-64D spec, but not all of them had the longbow mast.. In this case, you can't argue with history. We have all heard of the Vikings launching their longbows to raid the shores of Europe.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Ok well I agree that MTW is somewhat disappointing at times, but I have not yet lost hope for RTW. Even with all it's flaws MTW is a great game. I hope enough research is going into RTW.

If people are worried about their money it's already too late as you all have bought MTW. Do what you can to influence the release of RTW.

I believe the programmers and CA have an interest in hearing our views and acting on them.

Hoping that at least some of my displeasures will vanish with the patch, I can't wait for it to come out.

Btw if I'm not mistaken you also be able to play this expansion in normal medieval map right? With all the factions Byz, Turks, Egyp.... etc. I'm hoping for some improvements though.

I'll be buying it for one reason and one reason only - the ability to save between battles. 10 hours to play one turn with no ability to save was the reason I stopped playing the game in the 1st place. Hey, maybe they'll have the ability to save *during* battles (gasp&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif in the expansion pack for RTW. 20 quid for a half-decent save ability is a bit if a cheek IMO.
