Post count has nothing to do with it Rob. It is quality and your online personality. Your hotkey topic was a positive contribution to the community and well thoughtout. We like that here. I don't know how many players actually use hotkeys or bother to customize them so that may be why there was not much response to your post. However, that does not diminish the work you did. Sometime in the future, somebody will come around asking about this and we will remember your topic and reference it.

It's possible to turn off emoticons in a post, you can also preview the post and spot smileys (proofreading a message is always a good idea). Extra spaces between two characters will prevent characters making a smiley.

I am a regular poster at the .com but am incredibly dissatisfied with the juvenile content of the forums there and the immoderate moderators.

I view these forums very regularly but am hampered in my inputting to them by the wierd 'access' rules that you guys apply.

Can you please put me out of my misery and allow me access to the main forums?

Alternately I'd be happy to donate a kidney if that helps to 'sway' your decision....

If you can tolerate our weird posting policies for a few days and participate in topics here in the Entrance Hall, you won't need to worry about them ever again. The idea is the discourage troublemakers and drive-by flamers/spammers from getting into our main forums. There is a wide variety of topics here in the Entrance Hall as nothing is really off-topic here. We've got everything from how to do screen shots in game to mod comments/questions to a post about religious beliefs. If there isn't a topic here for you, start your own. If you do need to respond to something in another forum, post it here and ask the moderators to copy it to the appropriate topic.

There is no magic post count or time period to get a promotion to post in the other forums. Nor do you have to ask us moderators nicely for a promotion. For most patrons it takes about 1-4 days.

Dhepee, the check was already in the mail when you asked us nicely for a promotion. You had to wait a long time because you've posted a lot and we moderators have been busy with real life issues of late. The when of a promotion is often a timing issue. You had to wait a few days, while LestaT got bumped up in 1 day. It is not that LestaT is better than you, he happened to join and post right before we reviewed the list of Junior Patrons.

BTW, if you thank me for a promotion, you must thank others too. My fellow moderators Kukri and MonkeyMan and I must agree to a promotion before we pass it on to Tosa, who has the fun of actually making the promotion.

Polls were originally resticted for fear of everyone going poll-crazy. Tosa eased that restriction after the forum readme was composed.

I had earlier asked Gregoshi about polls and he said that the restrictions were eased, but I find that I can't post them anymore, being a senior patron. Is the restriction back to junior members and above?

Aside from the fact that I have the attention span of a gnat and the memory of a Commodore 64, the only lame, rice paper thin excuse I can provide is that this last promotion list was one of the longest we've had in a loooong time and it was easy to overlook one name missing from the list.

Same reason for me, I found my way here via Respawn UK because Giskard is a teammate of mine from another game (Mechwarrior 4:Mercenaries). I had MTW for a while but failed to get into it because the strategic game was tough for me, but now that I have some clue what I'm doing I loaded up the game and am enjoying it now.

Senior Patrons cannot post to the Tavern. Fear not, your time as a SP is usually about a week long. You need not do anything special. It is simply a waiting period before letting you stir things up in the Tavern (a rather volitile place at times). In the meantime, you can post in the other forums. When you come to the Org, check your group level. Your promotion to Junior Member will not be announced. Once you are a JM you will have posting rights to the Tavern.

The moderators want to see you make some posts so they can be happy that you are a sensible chap and are not just here to cause trouble.

So make some posts in the Entrance Hall, there are some good topics and before you know it you will be promoted. Check this topic at the top occasionally to check if you have.

Simply put, the reason your access is restricted is to prevent immediate access to all our forums for spammers, political fanatics and hot heads. We've had problems in the past with individuals or groups having a negative impact on our forums. Many new people are impressed/pleased at how friendly our forums are and we'd like to keep them that way. This policy restricts any potential trouble to one forum.

Until such a time as you get promoted to post in the other forums, you will need to post in the Entrance Hall. If there is a topic in another forum to which you want to reply, start a new topic in this forum. Give it the same title as the topic you are responding to. Post your response in this new topic and add a note for the moderators to copy it to the appropriate forum and post.

A little inconvenience now pays off later.
